DG Justice, Freedom and Security commissioned the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to undertake a “Study on practices in the area of regularisation of illegally staying third-country nationals in the Member States of the EU”. The study was commissioned subsequent to the Commission’s Communication on policy priorities in the fight against illegal immigration of third-country nationals, in which the Commission announced that it would undertake a study on regularisation, the purpose of which was to collect concrete factual, statistical, economic and legal information on issues related to regularisations, in order to inform future EU policy in this area.

All actors in the struggle against poverty and social exclusion in Europe recognise that the local level is crucial to achieve results in this field. Giving access to a wide range of good practices on the ground is the aim of LOCIN – http://www.locin.info/, the European website on local initiatives to combat social exclusion, which has been officially launched today in Brussels at a European conference gathering the project partners, as well as other relevant actors (NGOs, researchers, institutions). The project has been coordinated by the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) and supported by the European Commission (DG Research).

The debate takes place at the end of the EAPN EU Inclusion Strategies workshop assessing the progress on poverty by the 2012 NRP’s and NSRs, involving representatives from 30 national networks and 5 European Organisations. The debate involves: Egbert Holthius, Director of D1, DG EMPL, Marije Cornelissen (Greens/EFA), rapporteur on EP report on the Annual Growth Survey and Muriel Rabau, SPC representative from Belgium. The debate will focus on how far progress has been made on the delivery of the poverty target through the NRP’s; the role of the new National Social Reports and the meaningful engagement of stakeholders.
