UNV has been supporting the work of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) in war-torn and post-conflict areas since 1992. To date, more than 14,000 UN Volunteers have served in more than 40 different peacekeeping and political and peacebuilding operations.

Desde 1992, el programa VNU apoya el trabajo del Departamento de Operaciones de Mantenimiento de la Paz (DOMP) y del Departamento de Asuntos Políticos (DAP) de las Naciones Unidas en zonas devastadas por guerras y conflictos. Recognition of the value of volunteerism in peacekeeping, and the particular contributions of UN Volunteers in building and restoring trust, as well as in building local capacity, was reflected through a DPKO-UNV agreement in 2003. In this regard, most new operations established by DPKO and DPA include a significant component of UNV volunteers.

El acuerdo de 2003 entre el DOMP y el programa VNU es una muestra del reconocimiento al valor del voluntariado en las misiones de paz, así como a las contribuciones específicas de voluntarios VNU para restablecer la confianza y desarrollar la capacidad local. Working with the United Nations agencies system and national electoral authorities, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme supports the democratic process in countries around the world by assisting the organization, supervision and observance of local, regional and national elections. Key partners include the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Electoral Assistance Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).

Le programme des Volontaires des Nations Unies (VNU) soutient le processus démocratique dans plusieurs pays du monde par l'organisation et l'observation d’élections locales, régionales et nationales. Pour cela il coopère avec les agences des Nations Unies et les autorités électorales nationales. Les partenaires les plus importants sont le Programme des Nations Unies pour le développement (PNUD), la Division d’assistance électorale du Département des affaires politiques (UNDPA) et le Département des opérations de maintien de la paix (DPKO).
