The nitrate breakdown will then be achieved since bacterial films form on top of each other, leading in the lowest layers to an oxygen deficit. Only then do the bacteria in the lowest layers withdraw the oxygen from the nitrate and transform it, along with the carbon source from the balls on which they settle, to gaseous nitrogen which exits the water. This way the algae die off and can be combatted naturally without chemicals!

All substrate materials, from fine sand to coarse coral gravel, are suitable. Reproduction of natural habitats. There are two options: you can follow a biotope model closely, using only the animals, plants and decorative elements found within this natural habitat. Alternatively you can create a biotope simulation of an underwater landscape. Here you don't worry too much about the exact origin of the plants, animals or decorative materials used, but concentrate on the functional processes in a biotope. Biotope-scaping is the most demanding scaping style, because even the extreme habitats have to be visually appealing as well as realistic.

Na een week kunt u beetje bij beetje levend rifgesteente inzetten (nog steeds zonder licht!). Er zijn meerdere mogelijkheden om een steenconstructie vorm te geven in een zoutwateraquarium. Aan de ene kant kan een "onderbouw" van bijvoorbeeld gatenstenen worden geconstrueerd en daarop kunnen dan "levende stenen" worden geplaatst.

After one week you can start to gradually add living reef stone (still without light!) There are several ways to create constructions in the marine aquarium. Firstly you can build a „foundation“ with e.g. porous rocks and place “living stones” on it. Or you can invest a little more money and build the complete "reef" with “living reef rocks”. We recommend the latter method because living stones promote the aquarium biology better than “dead” porous rocks.

New findings in ichthyology (the study of fish) were the grounds to fundamentally revise the assortment of the JBL over-the-counter medication. The result is that both experts and "normal" aquarium enthusiasts are elated: the new JBL assortment of medication can treat most conventional fish diseases aquarium fish suffer from, with only very few exceptions such as for instance fish tuberculosis or abdominal dropsy (the latter is a systemic disease).
