Biel-Bienne, 28.06.2001 - The Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which is having a meeting these days in Geneva, has confirmed the decision of ITU Secretary General Yoshio Utsumi to organize the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in two phases. Phase one of the WSIS will be held in Geneva in December 2003 and phase two in Tunis in 2005. The Swiss Confederation and the Republic and Canton of Geneva will provide active assistance to the ITU in the preparation and organization of this Summit. The aim of the WSIS is to address the numerous new challenges resulting from the advent of the information society to which our society is confronted and their importance in the framework of North-South relations, and to develop specific projects fostering universal access to new technologies.

Biel-Bienne, 28.06.2001 - Le Conseil d'administration de l'Union internationale des télécommunications (UIT), qui siège ces jours à Genève, a confirmé la décision du Secrétaire général, Monsieur Yoshio Utsumi, d'organiser le Sommet mondial sur la société de l'information (SMSI) en deux phases. La première phase du SMSI aura lieu à Genève en décembre 2003, la deuxième à Tunis en 2005. La Confédération et la République et canton de Genève soutiendront activement l'UIT dans la préparation et la réalisation de ce Sommet. L'objectif du SMSI consiste, d'une part, à relever les multiples défis nouveaux que l'avènement de la société de l'information pose à notre société en s'inscrivant dans la perspective des relations Nord-Sud et, d'autre part, à élaborer des projets spécifiques qui encouragent l'accès généralisé aux nouvelles technologies.

Biel-Bienne, 28.06.2001 - Riunitosi in questi giorni a Ginevra, il Consiglio d'amministrazione dell'Unione internazionale delle telecomunicazioni (UIT) ha confermato la decisione del Segretario generale, Yoshio Utsumi, d'organizzare il vertice mondiale sulla società dell'informazione (VMSI) in due fasi. La prima fase del VMSI si terrà a Ginevra nel dicembre del 2003, mentre per la seconda fase verrà organizzata una conferenza mondiale a Tunisi nel 2005. La Confederazione e la Repubblica e Cantone di Ginevra sosterranno attivamente l'UIT nella preparazione e nella realizzazione di questo Vertice. L'obiettivo del VMSI consiste da un lato nel rilevare le molteplici nuove sfide che l'avvento della società dell'informazione pone alla nostra società, inserendosi nella prospettiva delle relazioni Nord-Sud e, dall'altro, nell'elaborare progetti specifici che promuovono l'accesso alle nuove tecnologie.
