Between 1553 and 1624, the Regensburg Consistory ordained around 200 pastors in the Neupfarrkirche who then founded many new Protestant congregations along the Danube itself and in the neighbouring areas. Conversely, Regensburg formed a safe haven for scores of Protestant fugitives from south-eastern Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Dans la deuxième moitié du XVIe siècle, la ville protestante de Ratisbonne connut un grand rayonnement le long du Danube en direction du sud-est. Matthias Flacius Illyricus (Matja Vlačić) originaire d’Albone (Labin – ville de l’actuelle Croatie), réformateur important et controversé, vécut et oeuvra à Ratisbonne entre 1562 et 1565. Simultanément, le Superintendent Gallus joua un rôle important pour la création et l’organisation de l’Eglise protestante en Autriche. Entre 1553 et 1624, le consistoire de Ratisbonne ordonna environ 200 pasteurs dans la Neupfarrkirche. Ils fondèrent de nombreuses paroisses protestantes le long du Danube et des territoires limitrophes. Inversement, Ratisbonne devint au XVIIIe et XIXe siècle un lieu d’asile pour des réfugiés de l’Europe du sud-est et poursuivis pour leur foi protestante.

Many Protestant religious fugitives from France settled in the vicinity of Neuchâtel and influenced the course of the Reformation in that region. Antoine Marcourt, the man who was probably behind the posters that caused the Affair of the Placards in France in 1534, was the first Protestant pastor to be appointed there, whilst Farel promoted the cause of the Reformation and summoned Calvin to his side in Geneva.

, fut nommé premier pasteur protestant, alors que Farel oeuvra en faveur de la Réforme à Genève où il appela Calvin. En 1532, Farel et Pierre-Robert Olivétan, précepteur à Neuchâtel, rencontrèrent à Chanforan dans le Piémont des représentants des Vaudois qui demandèrent une traduction française de la Bible. Olivétan se mit au travail. En 1535, Pierre de Vingle imprima la première bible française entière, la traduction d’Olivétan. Elle fut bientôt réimprimée à Genève et en d’autres endroits et reste à ce jour la traduction française la plus importante de la Bible. Lorsque Calvin et Farel furent bannis de Genève, Marcourt fut appelé à Genève et Farel prit la position de Marcourt à Neuchâtel. Il s’efforça d’introduire un règlement ecclésial selon l’exemple de Genève. Lors de nombreux voyages en Italie, en France et en Allemagne, il s’investit en faveur des sœurs et frères francophones de la foi réformés.
