The OIE Director General stressed the need for joint action in controlling antimicrobial resistance. To combat this global threat, the OIE is promoting the responsible and prudent use of antimicrobials through its international standards* in order to maintain their therapeutic efficacy in both animals and humans. Dr Bernard Vallat underlined that the OIE is working in closely with the World Health Organization to define "a global action plan on antimicrobial resistance to improve the coordination of global actions" in order to better manage the health risks associated with antimicrobial use, especially at the animal-human-ecosystem interface. The partnership with FVE is therefore crucial for implementing all the recommended actions.

Pour cela, le Dr Bernard Vallat a souligné que l’OIE travaille en collaboration étroite avec l'Organisation Mondiale de la Santé à la définition du « plan d’action mondial pour combattre la résistance aux antimicrobiens » pour une meilleure coordination des actions mondiales afin de mieux gérer les risques sanitaires liées à l'usage des agents antimicrobiens, notamment à l’interface animal-homme-écosystèmes. L’alliance avec la FVE s’avère donc cruciale pour mettre en œuvre toutes les actions recommandées.
