“Sailing away to Paint the Sea”. Paintings by Vittoria Chierici, following the 16 days of straight navigation on the bulk carrier Isolda, from Holland to Cleveland Ohio. The show has been curated by Constantia Constantinou, Library Director, Department Chair, Suny Distinguished Librarian. The show will be introduced by a film which has been edited and produced by the award winner industrial film maker, David Roy. Vittoria Chierici is a painter and filmmaker from Bologna, Italy; she received her education in Art History at the University of Bologna and in US, where, in the early 80's, she continued her studies in Art History at the UC Berkeley and Columbia. Since the late nineties, Chierici had solo shows in Madrid, Spain and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She exhibited her paintings and video projects in US, in New York and in Chicago. Since 2004, Chierici has begun a series of collaborations with American artists working in different art forms and in 2012, she was invited to participate in the group show Estate, organized by Lucie Fontaine at Marianne Boesky gallery, in New York.

In mostra i dipinti di Vittoria Chierici, risultato del lavoro portato avanti dall’artista nel corso di una traversata di 16 giorni, dall’Olanda a Cleveland (Ohio), sulla nave cargo Isolda. Ad introdurre la mostra, la proiezione di un film prodotto e curato da David Roy, film maker vincitore di numerosi premi. La mostra e’ stata curata da Constantia Constantinou, Direttore della Stephen B. Luce Library (Library Director, Department Chair, Suny Distinguished Librarian). Vittoria Chierici e’ una pittrice e videoartista nata a Bologna, dove ha studiato Storia dell’Arte presso il Dams (Discipline delle Arti, Musica e Spettacolo). Nei primi anni ’80 decide di proseguire i suoi studi negli Stati Uniti, alla UC Berkley ed alla Columbia e, sin dai primi anni novanta, le vengono dedicate personali a Madrid e Buenos Aires. In seguito, porta in mostra i suoi lavori anche negli Stati Uniti, a Chicago e dal 2004 inizia una serie di collaborazioni con artisti americani dai diversi backround artistici. Nel 2012, la Chierici e’ stata invitata a partecipare al Group Show Estate, organizzato da Lucie Fontaine nella Marianne Boesky gallery di New York.
