In response to this dilemma, Argentina, followed by countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chile and Peru, has created a separate legal category of “absent by enforced disappearance”, which enables women to inherit property, hold title to land, and access the material support needed to rebuild their lives. Yet these gains are few in comparison to the number of new cases in this past year and the thousands of families that remain without truth, justice, or the means to cope with the impact of the disappearance of their loved ones.

En respuesta a este dilema, Argentina, seguido por países como Bosnia y Herzegovina, Chile y Perú, han creado una categoría jurídica separada de “ausente por desaparición forzada”, que permite a las mujeres heredar propiedades, poseer títulos de propiedad de tierras y acceder al apoyo material necesario para reconstruir sus vidas. Sin embargo, estos beneficios son pocos en comparación con el número de nuevos casos acontecidos durante este último año y las miles de familias que siguen sin conocer la verdad, sin justicia, ni medios para hacer frente a las consecuencias de la desaparición de sus seres queridos.
