In the early days of the investigation in late 2011, it was reported that theft or robbery may have played a role in the attack on Jolene Cote which resulted in her death as wedding rings and a necklace belonging to her were reported missing. Consequently, one of the tasks of the investigation was to determine whether the missing jewelry was related to the offence. Police have determined that Jolene Cote was not wearing the jewelry on the evening of October 12, 2011, when she was killed. In addition, police confirm that there is not any evidence to suggest that theft or robbery was a motive in the attack that ended Jolene Cote's life, nor do police believe this to have been a random act.
