Dans le cadre de sa contribution à l’élargissement de l’UE, la Suisse soutient un projet letton visant à améliorer les transports scolaires dans les zones rurales défavorisées. Ce projet doit permettre d’offrir à quelque 9 000 enfants un moyen de transport sûr jusqu’à l’école.

In the context of its contribution to enlargement of the European Union, Switzerland is to support a project aimed at the improvement of school transport in impoverished rural areas of Latvia. The project will benefit a total of around 9,000 children of school age by ensuring safe transport to their schools. Switzerland and Latvia signed the project agreement together with this one for the implementation of the accounting and auditing standards on 11 August 2009.

Il est donc important d’assurer le bon fonctionnement des transports scolaires, mais souvent les communes concernées ne disposent pas des moyens nécessaires à cet effet. C’est la raison pour laquelle la Lettonie a lancé ce projet qui a vocation à améliorer les transports scolaires dans les zones rurales défavorisées.

Today many children in remote areas of Latvia face a long and at times dangerous journey to school, due to traffic accidents and cases of children being abducted. An efficient school transport system is therefore a necessity, but one which the local authorities are often unable to provide due to lack of funds. It is for this reason that Latvia has launched the present project to improve school transport in impoverished rural areas, in collaboration with Switzerland.
