The ACA and RPPIM suggest that according to calculations completed by Marine Geomatics, the commercial biomass for the southern Gulf is approximately 38,000 t and their provisional position is that an exploitation rate of 40% should be used giving a TAC of 15,200 t of which 80.41% is in Area 12. This position is supported by the following organizations: CNE, APPCA (who also asks that the buffer zones be removed), ACB, ACG, PEISCFA, crew members from NB. The following groups suggest a global TAC of 12,000 t and others 12,500 t: RPPSG, RPPUM, GNS Fishermen’s Coalition, MFU Local 4, Northumberland Fishermen’s Association; MFU, Provinces of PEI and of NS. The PEIFA and the PEI Groundfishermen’s Association suggest an Area 12 TAC of 10,800 t. The Provinces of NB and QC suggest an Area 12 TAC of 12,500 t, a study of buffer zones and they note that the management approach in other areas can have an impact on Area 12. First Nation organizations do not provide a recommended TAC.
