At Biovision, Samuel is the interface between Switzerland and Africa on several basic projects. In addition to project coordination, he is also involved in the work of the fundraising and communications department in Zurich. As part of his responsibilities, he ensures that projects are effective and that those working locally on projects have the required independence. Samuel is attracted to the central role played by knowledge in Biovision projects and the fact that dialogue with the scientific world is encouraged. He is aware that the work of farmers is complex and understands that the ultimate success of a project is the local application and development of this knowledge.

Mirjam Moser studied biology in Zurich and at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel. She soon realized that her particular interest lay in international issues and that she wanted to work in the field of development and cooperation, in particular the interface between health, ecology and society. Her study of infection biology gave her a thorough grounding in tropical diseases and the ecology of Africa. In order to extend her scientific horizons she did a postgraduate course in development and cooperation at NADEL ETH Zurich. This improved her basic understanding of the correlation between development and economic policy. She also gained valuable professional experience. For just under a year she worked as a project assistant on a farming and waste management project run by Swisscontact in Tanzania.
