In the Nijmegen region in the Netherlands, the past three years have seen 17 projects help 579 young people into work, training or a job placement. Implemented under the ‘Youth at Work’ ESF programme to combat youth unemployment, the projects covered a range of activities, such as seminars for schoolchildren on the most promising sectors for jobs, given by the chambers of commerce, and the ‘youth-vouchers’ project for employers who take on young workers. So far, 392 young people have found a job, and the programme aims to offer support to a further 600 by the end of the year.
