Mae'r gyfarwyddeb ansawdd aer amgylchynol 2008 (2008/50 / EC) yn pennu terfynau cyfreithiol ar gyfer crynodiadau mewn aer yn yr awyr agored o lygryddion aer mawr sy'n effeithio ar iechyd y cyhoedd fel mater gronynnol (PM10 a PM2.5) a nitrogen deuocsid (NO2).
Action to manage and improve air quality is largely driven by European (EU) legislation. The 2008 ambient air quality directive (2008/50/EC) sets legally binding limits for concentrations in outdoor air of major air pollutants that impact public health such as particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). As well as having direct effects, these pollutants can combine in the atmosphere to form ozone, a harmful air pollutant (and potent greenhouse gas) which can be transported great distances by weather systems.

This spatial dataset contains the boundaries of biogenetic reserves in Wales. The Biosphere Reserve is an international designation made by UNESCO based on nominations made by more than 110 countries. These sites are chosen to conserve examples of areas which are characteristic of the world's natural regions. They must also be areas where people are important components of everyday life. The biosphere is rapidly changing under the influence of human activity, so meeting their needs whilst conserving the area's natural processes and wildlife is of the utmost importance to understand.

Flood Risk Areas have been defined by Lead Local Flood Authorities. These areas cover surface water flooding only. Groundwater, coastal, reservoir failure, water main and river flooding are not covered. These are based on combining risk to people, critical services and commercial and public assets, and detailed flood modelling. The Flood Risk Areas show areas where the risk to flooding has the greatest impact on residential buildings and critical infrastructure i.e. the largest cities where there are the most residential properties and infrastructure in relation to the risk of flooding. Further detail on the methodology is available at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/research/planning/125459.aspx

Mae canlyniadau o amryfal ymchwiliadau ynglŷn â chlefydau anadlol a chlefydau dynol eraill yn dangos cysylltiadau ystadegol cyson rhwng y lefelau o PM10 y mae pobl yn agored iddynt yn yr awyr agored ac effeithiau andwyol ar iechyd. Mae planhigion yn tynnu deunydd gronynnol (PM10) o’r aer, gan leihau’r crynodiadau yn yr aer, a gwella ansawdd yr aer felly.
Sources of PM10 in the UK include road traffic, industry and power production. Results from numerous investigations of human respiratory and other diseases show consistent statistical associations between human exposure to outdoor levels of PM10 and adverse health impacts. Vegetation intercepts airborne particulate matter (PM10), reducing concentrations in the air, thereby improving air quality. This reduces the amount of PM10 exposure to humans and, in turn, can reduce the incidence of respiratory illness.

Operational catchments are a way of grouping Water Framework Directive (WFD) waterbodies together for the purposes of economic appraisal. Every waterbody has been assigned to an Operational catchment. They are not always hydrologically correct catchments as the river waterbodies may have been grouped based on pressures and measures than hydrology. They may also include coastal waters for example. This data set is based on the surface water boundaries of operational catchments and excludes the underlying Groundwater data.

The Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic known as the OSPAR Convention 1998 (Oslo Convention 1972 & Paris Convention 1974), is an agreement signed by a number of European countries (including the United Kingdom) to protect the quality of the North East Atlantic. The objective of the OSPAR Convention is to take all possible steps to prevent and eliminate pollution entering the sea. The OSPAR Convention provides standard methods for estimating the inputs of selected pollutants to the sea by using fixed sampling schedule and a standard input calculation. All principal rivers are sampled monthly (12 times a year) just upstream of their tidal limits. For those rivers carrying the heaviest contaminant loads the sampling frequency maybe increased beyond the minimum of 12. Major trade effluents and sewage effluents to estuaries or coastal waters are also sampled monthly to assess direct discharges to marine waters. The aim of these programmes is to assess the level of contamination entering the sea (the ‘load’) and to chart the progress in the reduction of this load.

The Flood Map shows the areas across Wales that could be affected by flooding from rivers or the sea. It also shows flood defences and the areas that benefit from them. Flood Map is designed to raise awareness among the public local authorities and other organisations of the likelihood of flooding and to encourage people living and working in areas prone to flooding to find out more and take appropriate action. The Flood Map includes several layers of information, this layer is: Spatial Flood Defences (without standardised attributes), which shows those defences constructed during the last five years with a standard of protection equal to or better than 1 percent for rivers and 0.5 percent from the sea. This spatial dataset contains boundaries of heritage coasts in Wales. Heritage Coasts occupy about a third of the Welsh coastline, that is 500 km (300 miles). These sites were set up to protect our coastlines from insensitive developments. Most are defined simply by the coastline between two named points, however some have clearly defined inland boundaries. Their status carries no legal protection, but planning authorities must take the designation into account when making decisions on development. Management of Heritage Coasts is the remit of the local authority and is generally carried out by Heritage Coast Officers with some practical tasks done by volunteers. Most of the Heritage coastal strips were defined in 1973, 1974 and one in 1984.

Flood Alert Areas are geographical areas where it is possible for flooding to occur from rivers or the sea. A single Flood Alert Area may cover the floodplain within the Flood Warning Service Limit of multiple catchments of similar characteristics containing a number of Flood Warning Areas. A Flood Alert Area may also match that of a corresponding Flood Warning Area and warn for the possibility of flooding in that area. In some coastal locations a Flood Alert may be issued for spray or overtopping and be defined by a stretch of coastline. Practical and administrative factors may also influence the exact extent of a Flood Alert Area.

Their purpose is to attenuate an incoming flood peak to a flow level that can be accepted by the downstream channel. It may also delay the timing of a flood peak so that its volume is discharged over a longer time interval.

Yn ôl y rheoliadau hyn, dylai DEFRA ddynodi cyrff dŵr sy'n cael eu defnyddio fel ffynonellau dŵr yfed ac sydd â chrynodiadau nitrad uchel (fel y diffinnir gan Gyfarwyddeb y Cyngor 75/440/EEC o 16 Mehefin 1975) yn ardaloedd sensitif.
This dataset is a shapefile showing the extent of Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (91/271/EEC) (UWWTD) sensitive areas (nitrate). The Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (91/271/EEC) regulates the collection and treatment of waste water from homes and from industry. In the UK, the directive is implemented through the Urban Wastewater Treatment regulations 1994. Under these regulations, water bodies that are used as sources for drinking water and which have high nitrate concentrations (as defined by Council Directive 75/440/EEC of 16th June 1975) should be designated as sensitive areas by Defra. This dataset consists of rivers currently designated as UWWTD nitrate sensitive areas.
