The Association for Socio-Cultural Promotion (Asprosocu) in the Spanish region of Murcia has helped close to 2 000 Roma people to improve their job prospects. Since 2007, the Association has received over EUR 1.7 million – co-funded by the ESF – to organise courses and training programmes to enhance social skills and employability among this disadvantaged group. Training is available in a variety of skills, such as tailoring, childcare and furniture restoring, and is accompanied by career guidance. The Association’s work on fighting social exclusion and poverty was praised by the General Director of the Institute for Social Action, Juan Castaño when he met Roma representatives in Cartagena.

Am 7. Januar 2011 öffnete der Business Accelerator Le Camping im Pariser Palais Brongniart seine Pforten für 12 IT-Neugründungen, die innerhalb von sechs Monaten intensive Unterstützung in drei Phasen erhalten. In der ersten dreimonatigen Phase wird eine Idee vorgestellt, die zweite Phase beinhaltet Treffen mit Geldgebern und die dritte Wachstumsphase verwandelt den Prototyp in ein Unternehmen.

Silicon Sentier (Silicon Pathway) – an organisation dedicated to supporting French innovation – has launched the first business accelerator for IT start-ups in France called Le Camping. On 7 January at the Brongniart Palace in Paris, the Le Camping accelerator opened its doors to 12 IT-based start-ups which will receive intensive support over six months in three phases. The initial three-month acceleration phase takes the idea and turns it into a demonstrator; the second phase involves meeting with financiers on ‘Investment Day’; and the third growth phase takes the prototype demonstrator and turns it into a business.

The Indre department in central France has more than 4 800 jobseekers aged 50+ and their number is growing every year. To help this group, the Indre Initiative Association – building on a successful earlier programme for women entrepreneurs – has launched an ESF co-funded project to help older people (45+ years) set themselves up as self-employed business people. A free-of-charge training session is the first step, after which the Association follows the progress of the participants as they set up their own businesses – offering help and individual guidance where needed. This includes meetings with local business leaders and access to Indre Initiative’s network of 300 partners – including bankers and legal experts among others.
