methode Persoonlijkheidsstoornissen werden onderzocht bij 203 epilepsiepatiënten, 60 patienten met psychogene pseudo-epileptische aanvallen en 26 patiënten met zowel epilepsie als psychogene pseudo-epileptische aanvallen. results When schizophrenic patients were asked to recognise facial expressions consciously they were less successful than healthy control subjects. However, during a priming task in which emotional facial expressions were presented subconsciously the schizophrenic patients performed better than control subjects. In this article a model is presented which proposes that conscious emotional processing is a result of activation of the left amygdala and that subconscious emotional processing is a result of activation of the right amygdala.

method All new patients between October 1997 and January 1999 received a questionnaire consisting of the McGill Pain Questionnaire (mpq-dlv) and the Symptom Checklist (scl-90). The mpq-dlv-scores of this sample were compared with those of 235 patients who received ambulatory physiotherapy. The scl-90-scores were compared with the standard scores of a normal population and with those of psychiatric outpatients. Eventually correlations between somatic and psychiatric complaints were investigated.
