Latent GOLD is a very popular tool for so-called clustering analyses. The software uses advanced statistical techniques to identify clusters with similar behavioural patterns. An example of such a cluster might be a set of individuals with more or less similar eating patterns. By identifying these clusters, policies – such as a healthy nutrition campaign – can be directly targeted at those individuals that would benefit most from them. The domain of application of these cluster analyses, and of the Latent GOLD software, extends to many domains including Marketing, Health, Sociology, and Transportation. The package is extensively used in TPM’s education and research programs. Maarten Kroesen, assistant professor at TPM, uses the software to identify sustainable mobility patterns and changes therein over time.
