Wedi ei ffilmio mewn golygfeydd du a gwyn hir, trawiadol, mae’r chwedl gyfarwyddol hon yn archwilio’n gynnil wyneb newidiol Tibet. Gan adael unigedd uchelderau’r Mynyddoedd Himalaya y tu ôl, mae’n rhaid i Tharlo, bugail syml, mynd i’r dref i gael ffotograff adnabod wedi ei dynnu.
Shot in long takes in striking black and white, this beguiling fable subtly explores the changing face of Tibet. Leaving the solitude of the high Himalayas behind, Tharlo, a simple shepherd has to go into town to get his ID photo taken.

Yn anochel, cyn hir mae’n ei chael yn anodd goroesi yn slymiau’r ddinas. Mae’r carismatig Oti, lleidr ceir, yn cymryd Mwas o dan ei adain, ac mae’n dilyn ei freuddwyd o fod yn seren wrth gael ei dynnu’n ddyfnach i isfyd treisiol y ddinas.
Adopted by the charismatic, small time car thief Oti, Mwas pursues his dream of stardom while being drawn further into the city’s violent underworld. A fun, absorbing cocktail of Kenyan street life stirred by a fine central performance, this is a rare chance to catch a glimpse of life for young Kenyans told from the inside.

Maent ar y strydoedd gyda gwên a chan, ond cyn hir byddant yn teimlo holl rym adlach artaith, marwolaeth a distryw. Mae Obaidah Zytoon, DJ radio yn Damascus, yn dyst gwrol sy’n teithio’r wlad i wneud synnwyr o’r anrhefn wrth i’w ffrindiau ddiflannu.
A radio DJ in Damascus Obaidah Zytoon is a fearless witness travelling the country trying to make sense of the chaos as her friends disappear. Increasingly she realises how much depends on the media coverage of events staged for the benefit of the camera - performance as propaganda, ‘a war show’ indeed. Essential viewing, this is a heart-rending attempt to document the unimaginable horrors of civil war.

Mae gan y pump “stan”, neu weriniaeth Ganolbarth Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan a Turkmenistan - hanes hir a chyfoethog o ganlyniad i’w lleoliad ar hyd y Ffordd Sidan. Gan ffurfio pont rhwng y Gorllewin a’r Dwyrain, mae eu hetifeddiaeth ddiwylliannol yn dod ynghyd â diwylliannau nomadig a sefydlog, ieithoedd Tyrceg â Farsi, ac mae eu gemwaith yn cyfuno cwrelau a gludwyd o’r moroedd ag arian a gloddiwyd o’r mynyddoedd sy’n croesi’r rhanbarth.
The five “stans”, or republics of Central Asia – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan – have a long and rich history thanks to their central location on the Silk Road. Forming a bridge between West and East, their cultural heritage brings together nomadic with settled cultures, Turkic languages with Farsi, and indeed, their jewellery combines corals transported from the seas with silver mined from the mountain ranges that cross the region.

Mae’r byreiriog, digynnwrf Meinhard yn sefyll ar wahân, gan wneud ffrindiau’n amyneddgar, er gwaethaf y rhwystr ieithyddol. Ond cyn hir, mae yntau hefyd yn cael ei hun ynghanol y dicter sy’n mudlosgi.
The laconic, self-possessed Meinhard stands apart patiently making friends with the locals despite the language barrier. But he too soon finds himself caught in the middle of the simmering resentments. Creating an air of exquisite tension, Grisebach’s quiet observational style shifts the focus from dialogue to body language, to subtly explore issues of trust, masculinity and cultural difference.

Maent yn straeon am y cyfyng-gyngor sy’n wynebu pobl, y dewisiadau maent yn gwneud, a chanlyniadau'r dewisiadau hynny. Gobeithiaf y bydd rhai o’r straeon hyn yn aros yn eich cof am hir gan roi rhywbeth i chi fyfyrio yn ei gylch hyd y daw cynigion y flwyddyn nesaf i’ch difyrru.
The films are my choices, personal, idiosyncratic, occasionally perverse or wayward. But I hope that all tell powerful stories that illuminate our world and the way we live now. Stories of the dilemmas people face, the choices they make, and the consequences of those choices. I hope that some of these stories will linger long in the memory giving you something to reflect on till the next year’s crop comes along for your enjoyment.

Yn gwersylla uwchben Melilla, porthladd bychan Sbaenaidd ar arfordir Mor y Canoldir, Gogledd Affrica, rhoddir camera i’r ffoadur o Mali, Abou Bakar Sidibé er mwyn dogfennu bywyd beunyddiol ei gyd-ffoaduriaid. Torrir ar draws y cyfnodau hir o ddiflastod gan gynigion diffrwyth i neidio’r ffensys i gyrraedd eu El Dorado Ewropeaidd.
The long periods of tedium and hassle are punctuated by fruitless attempts to jump the fences to get to their European El Dorado. Contrasting with this intimate footage are the abstract, de-humanising CCTV images that track the refugees as they storm the fences. With increasing skill Sidibé reveals the camaraderie between the migrants from all over Africa in their daily struggle to survive - their hopes, dreams and stoical humour.

Mae’r arwyddion yn argoelus pan mae Oscar yn symud ei deulu o gefn gwlad y Philippines i Fanila a chyn hir mae’r newydd-ddyfodiaid naïf yn byw mewn slym heb ddimai, yn ei chael yn anodd bwydo eu plant ifainc ac yn llithro i dlodi.
The signs are ominous when country bumpkin Oscar moves his family from the rural Philippines to Manila, where the naive newcomers are soon broke slum-dwellers, struggling to feed their young kids and sliding into poverty. Against the odds, Oscar lands a job as a security guard, but he falls into bad company and soon finds himself out of his depth in an unpredictable scam. Pacy, engrossing, and with a stellar turn from the plucky schmuck protagonist, this is a vivid, emotionally engrossing, under-the-radar surprise.

O’r gosodiad syml hwn, mae Diab yn gweu stori drawiadol gyda gwir egni sinematig. Mae tensiwn yn yr awyr wrth iddynt ddisgwyl eu tynged ar ôl treulio diwrnod hir a phoeth wedi eu cloi gyda’i gilydd. Wrth i derfysgoedd ffrwydro o’u cwmpas, teimlwn eu clawstroffobia, dicter, ofn, arswyd, anobaith, ac ambell lygedyn o obaith.
In the chaos innocent bystanders, journalists and fierce political rivals are rounded up and thrown in the back of a truck. From this simple set-up, Diab weaves a striking story told with real cinematic verve. Tensions run high as they await their fate during a long hot day locked together. As riots explode around them we feel their claustrophobia, anger, fear, horror, despair, and glimmers of hope. A masterful depiction of a society torn apart by its differences, this builds powerfully to a breathless finale.
