One of the biggest challenges of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at which SDC has been working for many years, is to reduce unemployment. A society that has 43% of unemployed people, most of whom are young people, is facing a large brain drain of younger population. The educational system is not in correlation with market demands, which increases fear of the youth about being able to find a job after graduating from high school or not, which then further discourages them to continue education, whether formally or informally. Since youth employment and training belong to the goals of the "Strategy of Cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina 2009 - 2012", SDC decided to support the project "Skills for jobs in BiH".

Stoga su prve dvije korisničke grupe ovog projekta  mladi koji su odustali od formalnog obrazovanja tokom pohađanja  srednje škole i učenici trećih i četvrtih razreda stručnih škola čije diplome nisu više tražene na tržištu i/ili čije obrazovanje ne pruža dovoljno praktičnog znanja.

Around 45% of young people in BiH are currently unemployed, and every third unemployed person is under 30 years of age. Therefore, the first two user groups of this project consist of young people who gave up on formal education during the completion of secondary school and of pupils of third and fourth grade of secondary vocational schools whose diplomas are no longer demanded in the market and/or whose education does not provide enough practical knowledge. Further groups that will also benefit from this project are elderly unemployed persons that have work experience as well as employees who need to upgrade their skills to keep their job.

In the next three years, most vulnerable groups will sense the actual benefit of this project, such as persons with disabilities, children and youth, persons in social need, non-governmental organizations that offer support to vulnerable groups through public-private partnerships. In the middle of 2010, in the first round of financial support for projects, as many as 21 initiatives of BiH NGOs were selected. Based on the financial participation of FSU and local communities with a total amount of 1,239,095.07 BAM (633,540.00 EUR), as many as 8224 persons in BiH, who are in social need, will receive direct assistance.

Given that the issue of social inclusion in BiH exceeds the local level or the individual support, this project has a global aspect. Questions on how BiH will include social issues in the EU integration process, as well as the amount and purpose of the allocation of funds to NGOs by the authorities, will be investigated and discussed. Moreover, recommendations will be offered as to how the authorities can use NGOs in terms of improving social policies and labor, in accordance with the State Strategy on Social Inclusion. Thanks to SIF support, many NGOs will receive an opportunity to actively participate in the EU integration process and thus contribute to reforms in the sector of social protection.

More than half of the population in Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently not included in the economic, social, political and cultural life, nor does it have access to standards of living that are considered normal in today's society, out of whom no less than 22 percent suffers extreme social exclusion. How to restore hope to people who live on the threshold of poverty (no less than every fifth citizen), as well as to those who are excluded from the political, economic or social life of Bosnia and Herzegovina? These are the questions to which the Social Inclusion Foundation(SIF) will try to give answers in the coming years. Through direct assistance to civil society organizations, dedicated to social issues, and through assistance to institutions in order to implement the Strategy of Social Inclusion, SIF will contribute towards preventing and reducing the causes and consequences of social exclusion in BiH.
