  Artes Mundi - NATURAL P...
Wedi’i hysbrydoli gan yr arddangosfa yn Amgueddfa Cymru Caerdydd, Uncommon Ground; Celf y Tir ym Mhrydain 1966-1979, gwahoddodd yr artist celf y tir, Anne-Mie Melis, ymwelwyr i feddwl am eu profiad o’r arcedau a chyfrannu gair i’r cwmwl geiriau ar y llawr, gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau naturiol megis helyg, canghennau a cherrig o wahanol faint i greu pob llythyren. Yna, tynnwyd lluniau o’r geiriau hyn a’u hargraffu’n fyw yn y gofod, i’w hychwanegu at gwmwl ar y wal ac o hwn dechreuodd cerdd ymffurfio a ysbrydolwyd gan gelf y tir.
Inspired by the National Museum Cardiff’s exhibition ‘Uncommon Ground: Land Art in Britain 1966-1979’, land artist Anne-Mie Melis invited visitors to think about their experience of the arcades and contribute a word to the floor-based word cloud, using natural materials like willow, branches, pebbles and stones to construct each letter. These words were then photographed and printed live in the space, to be added to the wall-based cloud, from which a land-art inspired poem began to emerge.

Throughout May and June, artist Rabab Ghazoul has been working with a team of young Community Consultants in the Penygraig and Porth area of Rhondda Cynon Taff to design and run a series of creative conversations within the local community. Ymlaen â fi at ffilm fygythiol ddeugain munud gan Omer Fast yn cynnwys straeon ailadroddus am rieni’n croesawu gwahanol fersiynau ‘o’u mab’? Daniel yn ôl o’r rhyfel. Roedd yna ryw islais rhywiol anghynnes a delweddaeth ryfedd, ond roedd y ffilm wedi’i saethu’n wych.
Onward to a forty minute menacing film by Omer Fast featuring repeating tales of a set of parents welcoming back different versions of “their son?” Daniel from war. There was a creepy sexual undertone and strange imagery, but it was wonderfully shot. The suggestion is that trauma faced by a society sits in us all and its memory raises its head in generations to come.

Fel yn ei weithiau diweddar eraill fel Tropikos (2016) a Vertigo Sea (2015), mae’r môr yn chwarae rôl bwysig – fel parth yn y canol rhwng y gorffennol a’r presennol, y lleol a’r byd-eang sy’n dal atgofion o’r holl deithiau yna – y rhai unigol ac ar y cyd.
The film brings together 8 interconnected mass migrations which have taken place during the past 400 years beginning with the little known 1654 fleeing of Sephardic Jews from Catholic Brazil to Barbados. Auto Da Fé then continues to reveal many more examples of displacement throughout history and in the present day for example migrations from Hombori, Mali and Mosul, Iraq. The landscape in which this work was filmed is deliberately ambiguous in an attempt to reflect the universal and ongoing nature of these stories. As in other recent works such as Tropikos (2016) and Vertigo Sea (2015) the ocean plays an important role – it is an intermediate zone between the past and present, local and global and holds the memories of all those individual and collective journeys.
