Ceoltóir, fidléir, file agus seanchaí ab eaMicí Bán Ó Beirn (1899-1980) a rugadh ar an Chaiseal i gCill Charthaigh i gCo. Dhún na nGall. Duine de sheachtar clainnne, triúr buachaillí agus ceathrar cailíní, ab ea é.
Micí Bán Ó Beirn was a fiddler, poet and seanchaí from the Cill Charthaigh area of Donegal and these folklore stories were taken down from him by Bríd Ní Bheirn, a local school mistress, in 1930. Micí Bán grew up in an area rich in culture and folklore with influential local storytellers such as Condaí Ó Laighean. One of seven children, three boys and four girls, Micí was an Albino and his bad eyesight meant he could read only the headlines in the newspapers and had to have the stories read to him. In spite of this difficulty, Micí's extraordinary intellect allowed him to absorb and retain huge amounts of information. He was also a talented musician, and both he and his brother, Proinsias, were renowned throughout the country for their fiddling. Bríd Ní Bheirn, a local school mistress, realising that the language and the oral culture were in decline, took down these stories from Micí Bán in 1930. The stories lay idle for some time afterwards until her sister, Maireád, in turn passed them to Mícheál Mac Giolla Easbuic that he might edit and compile this publication.
The Merry Love to Play ...
Is fada cáil ar Peter Horan, as Cill Fhábhail, Co. Shligigh, as feabhas a chuid ceoil ar an bhfeadóg mhór agus is é seo an dara halbam atá taifeadta aige le Gerry Harrington, fidléir den scoth as an Neidín i gCo.
Peter Horan is a legendary flute player from Killavil, Co. Sligo and this is the second album that he has recorded with Gerry Harrington, a talented fiddler from Kenmare, Co. Kerry. Their first album, Fortune Favours the Merry, was released in 2005 to critical acclaim and The Merry Love to Play will do much to confirm their excellence as a duet. The new album is completely unaccompanied, a very rare occurrence in commercial music, allowing the listener to focus entirely on the two melody instruments and also maximizing the opportunity to hear Peter Horan's unique flute playing. The musicians' distinct styles complement each other superbly, with Gerry's delicate and airy playing providing the perfect counterbalance to Peter's rhythm-driven style.

Is é an ceoltóir deireanach é a bhíonn ag seinm sa stíl atá aige, stíl atá an-ghaolmhar le stíl fhidle an cheantair. Is as an Neidín i gCo. Chiarraí do Gerry Harrington, ach tá cónaí anois air i Lios Mór, Co.
Peter Horan is from Killavil, Co. Sligo, and is a veteran of Irish traditional music. Growing up in 'fiddle country' meant that his flute style was largely free of the influence of other players, and he is now the last exponent of a unique style of flute playing which is not unlike the local fiddle style. Gerry Harrington is from Kenmare, Co. Kerry, and is now living in Lismore, Co. Waterford. His fiddle style is predominantly that of Sliabh Luachra. Gerry is a highly respected musician who has made several other recordings, including collaborations with Charlie Piggott and Nancy Conescu. Ollie Ross brings a lovely touch to the album with lively, intuitive accompaniment on piano.

Brian Hughes is from Athy, Co. Kildare, and has established himself as one of the finest tin whistle players in the tradition, a fact confirmed by this album of vibrant whistle music. Brian's earliest introduction to music was through his grandfather Christy Bracken, a noted bagpiper, who transmitted his love of traditional music to his grandson. As well as tin whistle, Brian also has a great interest in the flute and uilleann pipes and was a regular visitor to the Pipers' Club in Henrietta Street, Dublin, in his youth. He has always been an avid collector of tunes both old and new, many of which sit comfortably alongside each other on this wonderfully varied album.

Seisear ceoltóirí eisceachtúla iad siúd atá le cluinstin ar an albam seo, ina measc triúr de mhuintir cháiliúil Lennon: Ben, Charlie agus Maurice. Is deartháireacha iad Ben agus Charlie a rugadh agus a tógadh i gCoillte Clochair, agus tá cáil orthu go fairsing i measc lucht an cheoil.
The musicians on this album are six exceptionally talented fiddle players, and include three members of the well-known Lennon family, Ben, Charlie and Maurice. Ben and Charlie, brothers, were brought up in Kiltyclogher, and their names are known far and wide in traditional music circles. They have both recorded several albums, and in addition Charlie has received widespread critical acclaim as a composer. Maurice is Ben's son, and he was a founder member of Stockton's Wing in 1977. Séamus Quinn is from Derrygonnelly, in Co. Fermanagh, and both his father and grandfather came from Kiltyclogher. Séamus' grandfather was a well-known fiddler and was regarded by many as the most outstanding of his time. Brian Rooney was born near Kiltyclogher, and his father played fiddle and flute. He emigrated to London in the 1940s, where he became deeply involved in the traditional Irish music scene, playing with the group Sliabh Luachra. John Gordon was from Cashel, Co. Fermanagh. He was a very well-known musician, and featured in broadcasts on both BBC and RTÉ Radio. Sadly, John passed away in 2002.

Brothers Oisín and Conal Hernon are two young musicians from the Aran Islands who, although just sixteen and thirteen years of age respectively, display the musical ability and skills of musicians twice their age. They began playing music when they were very young, both starting out on tin whistle, with Oisín moving to button-accordion at the tender age of six and Conal taking up banjo at the age of nine. It wasn't long before they began playing in competitions and they have amassed a long list of prizes over the years, including All-Ireland titles on button-accordion and banjo. They have performed music on many stages, with one of the highlights being a performance for visiting EU ministers and dignitaries during Ireland's hosting of the EU Presidency in 2004. The brothers' musical talents come as little surprise because their mother, Marion, is also an accomplished musician who has won the All-Ireland title for button-accordion, as well as prizes for singing in English and Irish. Her own parents are also musical - her mother is from Milltown Malbay in west Clare, a town renowned for traditional music, and her father is an accomplished box player who toured Ireland with his band, The Inky Craven Dance Band. This exceptional family can boast seventeen All-Ireland titles between them, spread over three generations, and all three generations can be heard playing on Up and Coming - Ó Ghlúin go Glúin.
