It is kind of a paradox that music of the “Chico Trujillo” sounds so modern but it is inspired by 6-7 decade generation of the early bands of cumbia. This band connected the smallest bits of past cumbia and the alternative culture that is full of world’s influences under the flag of Latin cumbia. At this moment the “Chico Trujillo” has released eight albums and two of them are records of live performances.

The bands driving force is mouth harmonicas, tuba, drums, guitars, banjo, big section of wind instruments and the vocal of Wade Schuman. He is recognized as a most dynamic artist, a leader of the ensemble. His voice is so deep that it might be in a competition with a noise of freight train. This ensemble merges blues, folk, world, fusion, jazz also 3rd decade’s music and makes it with XXI century enthusiasm.

The first time they met was in 2001. Ablaye Cissoko is the successor of traditional griot music of Senegal. Volker Goetze is a german origin new Yorker. And when they did met each other they began to create blend in music that was clear and graceful, and futuristic. This duo is powerful, noble in spite all cultural and instrumental differences between artists. All the notes have a place, worth and weight in this duos peaceful, meditative music. The feeling of light and space, and mystic is created by soft and velvet voice of Ablaye Cissoko and also wavy, playful sounds of trumpet next to the sounds of kora (musical instrument from western Africa with 21 string) that sounds a lot like harp and lute.

Different Tuareg tribes and wodaabe music creates a powerful combination, hypnotic sound and a new style called the nomadic blues. “Etran Finatawa” songs are performed in two languages: Tuareg tamashek and wodaabe fulfulde. They tell stories of the nomadic life about freedom and isolation, the enormous difficulties and poverty, harsh climate, beautiful women, happy days, animals and their life, holidays and family, stars and desert storms. Some of the lyrics are characterized as healing power because in both cultures music is used as a therapeutic tool.
