All people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, should be able to enjoy their human rights. Threats and discrimination against LGBTI community members and activists are still present in Kosovo while cases of hate speech targeting members of sexual minorities are rarely investigated. The harassments are rarely reported to relevant institutions nor are they handled by prosecution. As such, it reflects in discouraging the community to report on them.

For first time ever in Kosovo, on 17 May 2014, on the International Day against Against Homophobia and Transphobia, three NGOs QESh, CEL (Centre for Equality and Liberty) and CSGD (Center for Social Group Development) organized a march. On the same day, Kosovo's government building was lit with the colors of rainbow while many international organizations and Embassies raised the rainbow flag. This year, celebration of May 17 “Walk and Dance against Homophobia” gathered a greater number of both civil and institutional supporters. The participants enjoyed the good atmosphere created by a band playing music at the main city square.

Finland’s Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja visited Kosovo on 6 September. His day started with a meeting in the Finnish Embassy, where Finnish experts from EULEX, KFOR, OSCE, UNDP and ICO briefed the minister about their work. The discussion covered Kosovo's decentralization process, civil registration, challenges in gender equality and the position of the youth in Kosovo's development among other topics.

Moreover, the Government of Kosovo has adopted advanced policies to tackle domestic violence and other shortcomings that hinder women's rights and equal opportunities.

During this spring, a conference to promote the LGBTI person’s rights to participate in politics was organized. The event gathered representatives from the government, ministries and political parties gathered to discuss and find ways to improve the current state of the community and their involvement in politics. Despite the progress achieved so far, a more proactive role of Kosovo authorities and an honest and open political support is needed. Promotion of equal treatment, legal protection of community members and raising awareness among Kosovo officials of their responsibility to enforce the applicable legislation in the country, are few of issues to be addressed immediately.

Despite the fairly progressive legal framework and several existing mechanisms promoting gender equality, women in Kosovo still experience vast equity gaps in terms of socio-economic situation and political decision-making. Unemployment in general is undoubtedly the most critical problem Kosovo is facing but the situation looks particularly dire for women. According to Kosovo Gender Profile only 18 per cent of women compared to 55 per cent of men are working in the formal labour market. UN Women and the Kosovo Agency for Statistics estimate that four out of five victims of domestic violence are women and girls. Moreover, women remain underrepresented in decision making processes at all levels.

In July 21 and 22, the RWL SEE organized two roundtables, in Gracanica and Novo Brdo, gathering women leaders, decision makers and civil society representatives. The participants listened attentively to the presentation about the Brussels Agreement delivered by the Minister for Dialogue, Edita Tahiri, the Chair of RWL SEE, discussion circling around ways on how to support its implementation. The women were in particular eager to learn about the progress and whether the agreement will improve their unsatisfactory situation. Gracanica and Novo Brdo women shared their experiences and challenges when it comes to property and ownership rights, unemployment, freedom of movement, various forms of violence, and linguistic rights, among others.

RWL SEE:n jäsenet Kroatiasta, Montenegrosta ja Makedoniasta osallistuivat keskusteluun kertomalla kokemuksiaan omien maidensa EU-integraatioprosesseista ja pohtivat, mitä vaikutuksia integraatiolla on naisten asemaan ollut. Tilaisuuksien päätteeksi naiset totesivat, että vain yhteistyön kautta he voivat olla mukana nopeuttamassa Kosovon ja Serbian välisten suhteiden normalisoimista ja integraatioprosessia.

Experiences about the process of EU integration process and the influence it has in the position of women were shared by the RWL SEE members from Croatia, Montenegro and Macedonia. At the closure of both events, the women concluded that by working together, they can speed up the normalization and integration process and strengthen peace and stability in the country and the region as well.
