Gertrude Smith appreciates that Leonard Burkat has sent the list of corrections [for SYMPHONY No. 6] in triplicate. She immediately sent one copy to London, together with the mention of the anniversary [see the question in LB’s letter dated 22 September]. GS has convinced the London branch to make another print, hence they will not require Charles Munch’s copy.

V Londýně udělali další kopii partitury SYMFONIE č. 6 Bohuslava Martinů a odešlou ji Gertrudě Smith. John Andrewes nechtěl původně partituru kopírovat, protože nejsou opraveny chyby, což později může zapříčinit problémy.
In London they have made another copy of the score of Bohuslav Martinů’s SYMPHONY NO. 6 and will send it to Gertrude Smith. Originally, he did not want to copy the score, since the errors are not corrected, which would engender later problems. Hence, John Andrews has corrected the errors according to [Charles Munch’s] list, as well as one or two more errors discovered by Vilém Tauský, who premiered the work in London.

The corrections in PS1bA3 are also in pencil and the signature is in black ink. B. 48 in the viola is corrected in the same way as in PS1bA1. In bb. 243-9 Martinů uses a dash-dot line for the upper octave. The composer did not correct any other errors in this copy. On 17 February 1957 martinů wrote to Sacher: "I asked Prague to send you the score of the chorus I wrote in Nice, the premiere was in Polička. I hope you recieved it, it is a very simple piece. They also made the discs, which sound admirably good." (from letter Sac 1957-02-17). However, Paul Sacher did not recive the music from Prague, a fact he mentioned to the composer in a letter less than two weeks later (from letter Sac 1957-02-26). It is clear that Martinů then sent him the sheet music from Rome himself because the score contains his signature and corrections. Sacher confirmed the receipt: "[...] I received the score of "Opening the Wells' today, for which I thank you." (from letter Sac 1957-03-06). Until 2011 PS1bA3 was listed in the PSS library as just an ordinary printed score with the composer's signature. Based on a comparison with the other proofs PS1bA1 and PS1bA2, the editor was able to identify Martinů's handwriting in the corrections. The source does not contain any other corrections compared to PS1bA1 and PS1bA2.
