The University’s logo resembles a shield shaped like the nib of a pen. Within the shield, there are curved and vertical lines, and right in the centre there are six oval shapes that represent, among others, six grains of rice. The background colour of the shield is dark blue while the vertical and curved lines are white. If the logo is on a flag, the background colour surrounding the shield should be light blue.

Shayokan is a building with an irimoya style roof (hip-and-gable roof) built by Gen'emon Tsushima (Osamu Dazai’s father), a major landowner during the Meiji period. The building was completed in June 1907. The whole structure, including the rice storehouse, was made with Japanese cypress wood. It has 11 rooms with an approximate area of 919 square meters on the first floor, and 8 rooms with an approximate area of 383 square meters on the second floor. Including attached buildings and a Japanese garden with ponds, this mansion was very large, at 2,248 square meters. After the Tsushima family gave up the building after the war, the building became an inn called the Shayokan in 1950. A major sightseeing spot in Goshogawara, many fans across the country visited the inn. The former Kanagi-machi township government (later merged with Goshogawara) purchased the structure in March 1996, restored the inn's interior, and re-opened the place as a museum.

she uses the readymade ceramic ‘votive eyes’ ,( eyes that are used on the idols of the divine) to construct three realities that morph into each other – the past, the present and the future. She does this by superimposing three sets of drawings one above the other, a ‘rangoli’ drawing that refers to ‘tradition’ (the unchanging aspect), a map of the geographical location that she lives in (also unchanging ) and a random line that represents the future .She sees the future as a space for possibilities, things once considered unchangeable can be transformed. By using the votive eyes, traditionally used only for religious objects (which she sees as symbols of oppression), she creates works of art , thereby restoring ‘beauty’ to where it rightfully belongs, to the secular aesthetic world. This work also references ‘rangoli’ drawing which is a traditional decorative folk art. These floor drawings are made each morning with rice flour to welcome the new day and are half- erased or completely wiped away by the night. But every day brings a new drawing, a new beginning.
