The design, construction, operation and maintenance of silos are not being described in any national legislation or industrial standard. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the owner to establish related written procedures to ensure its safe use. Silos can be defined as tall structures, made of either reinforced concrete or metal, usually containing grains or cement. Essentially, the design of silos should comply to relevant international code of practice, incorporate complete understanding of the materials to be stored and include all possible loading combinations.
