There are many things you can do to vary the appearance of text beyond just rendering it with different fonts or different colors. By converting a text item to a selection or a path, you can fill it, stroke the outlines, transform it, or generally apply the whole panoply of GIMP tools to get interesting effects. As a demonstration of some of the possibilities, try out the "logo" scripts at File → Create → Logos. Each of these scripts allows you to enter some text, and then creates a new image showing a logo constructed out of that text. If you would like to modify one of these scripts, or construct a logo script of your own, the Using Script-Fu and Script-Fu Tutorial sections should help you get started. Of course, you don't need Script-Fu to create these sorts of effects, only to automate them.

Molto si può fare per cambiare l'aspetto del testo oltre a semplicemente cambiare tipo o colore del carattere. Convertendo un testo in una selezione o un tracciato è possibile riempirlo, tratteggiarne i contorni, trasformarlo o più in generale applicare l'intero allestimento di strumenti di cui GIMP è corredato per ottenere un insieme di effetti molto interessante. Come dimostrazione di alcune di queste possibilità, si consiglia di provare gli script "logotipi" presenti nel menu strumenti, sotto File → Crea → Logotipi. Ognuno di questi script permette di inserire del testo ed in seguito crea una nuova immagine mostrando un logotipo creato partendo dal testo inserito. Se si desidera modificare uno di questi script o crearne uno per proprio conto, le sezioni Uso degli Script-Fu e Guida sugli Script-Fu possono essere d'aiuto per iniziare. Naturalmente non è necessario usare uno script per creare questi effetti ma solo per automatizzarli.

Dersom du omformer teksten til eit utval eller ein bane, kan du fylle teksten, streke opp omrisset eller gjere kva du måtte ønskje med heile batteriet av verktøya som GIMP er oppsett med. Ta ein kikk på dei såkalla «logoskripta» som ligg i menyen under Fil → Hent inn → Logoar. Her kan du manipulera ein innskriven tekst på ulike måtar. Skulle du ha ønskje om å endre på eit av skripta, eller programmera nye, sjå først på kapitla Å bruke Script-Fu og Innføring i Script-Fu.
