« Je suis d’une famille de charpentier. La moitié de la flotte du Banc d’Arguin a été construite par mon père, aujourd’hui décédé. Il s’appelait Boughari Ould Louli. Il travaillait avec les espagnols, avant la création du Parc.

„Ich komme aus einer Bootsbauerfamilie. Die halbe Flotte von Banc d’Arguin wurde von meinem Vater gebaut, der mittlerweile verstorben ist. Er hieß Boughari Ould Louli und hat vor der Gründung des Nationalparks mit den Spaniern zusammengearbeitet. Der Beruf wurde mir quasi in die Wiege gelegt, und ich habe selbstverständlich bei meinem Vater gelernt. Unsere Arbeitsweise ist anders als die in der Werkstatt des Parks. Ich habe die Arbeitsweise meines Vaters übernommen, arbeite aber mit moderneren Werkzeugen. Am Anfang habe ich beim Bau der Segelboote mitgeholfen, wenn ich während der großen Ferien ins Dorf zurückgekehrt bin. Das restliche Jahr über war ich in der Schule in Noudhadibou oder in Nouakchott. Mit vierzehn habe ich mein erstes Boot ganz alleine gebaut. Heute bin ich 26 und der jüngste Bootsbauer in R’Gueiba. Man kann ein Fischerboot problemlos alleine bauen. Man muss dann vier bis sechs Monate Zeit einrechnen. Das macht mir eigentlich am meisten Spaß.

Je m’appelle Ahmed Ould Meddou. Comme Sidi - notre champion mauritanien de l’observatoire d’oiseaux à Iwik, je suis imraguen et écoguide au Parc du Banc d’Arguin. Avec Sidi, je suis membre fondateur de l’Association des Amis du Banc d’Arguin.

Ich heiße Ahmed Ould Meddou. Genauso wie Sidi – unser mauretanischer Champion für die Vogelwarte in Iwik – bin ich Imraguen und Ecoguide im Nationalpark von Banc d'Arguin. Mit ihm habe ich auch den Verein der Freunde von Banc d'Arguin gegründet. Ich bin im Dorf Iwik innerhalb des Parks geboren und wohne dort bis heute mit meiner Frau und unseren drei Kindern. Ich bin Fischer; der Fischfang war schon immer ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens. Dank einer speziellen Ausbildung bin ich Ecoguide für Banc d'Arguin geworden. Für mich ist das mehr als nur ein Beruf, es ist eine Leidenschaft, die ich zusätzlich zum Fischfang ausübe, wenn es von Touristen nachgefragt wird.

L’AABA regroupe des femmes et des hommes Imraguen dont un groupement d’éco-guides qui ont suivi une formation de 19 mois organisée par le PNBA, Wetlands International et la Fondation Internationale du Banc d’Arguin (FIBA). Sidi ould Ely, notre champion du projet d’observatoire d’oiseaux à Iwik, est le Président de l’AABA.

Association des Amis du Banc d’Arguin (AABA) was formed in 2011 to represent the wish of resident populations to contribute actively to the preservation of their protected marine reserve. The AABA brings together all Imraguens resident in the PNBA, of which a group of eco-guides who were trained for nineteen (19) months by the PNBA, Wetlands International and the International Foundation for the Banc d'Arguin (FIBA). Sidi Ould Ely, the champion of the Birds’ observatory project in Iwik is the president of the AABA. The association‘s mission is to contribute to the harmonious development of resident populations in the Park. Its main objectives are to support the preservation of cultural heritage and local knowledge, to promote environmental education, to participate in ecosystem conservation and in the protection of animal and plant species. Many members of the association are bird lovers and have perfect knowledge of the Imraguen territory and culture. The AABA is coorganizing the summer camp. In particular the eco-guides will assist the children in the discovery of the PNBA landscapes. We pay special attention to children's education. The status of the association provides for the promotion of young members. The association counts, till date, about fifty (50) "young members".
