Si tratta di testimonianze uniche delle antiche civiltà che si stabilirono sulle Alpi tra il Neolitico e l’età del Bronzo: certo oggi delle palafitte in legno e canne, poggiate su pali fissati sulla riva di fiumi, laghi, paludi e talvolta anche su terreni asciutti non rimane più nulla di immediatamente visibile (testimonianze come utensili e vasellame sono comunque visibili visitando il Museo di Storia naturale di Verona) ma per gli addetti ai lavori si tratta di siti importantissimi per ricavare informazioni sulla vita quotidiana, le pratiche agricole e sull’allevamento, attività primarie degli uomini primitivi.

All of them are a unique testament of ancient civilizations that settled on the Alps between the Neolithic and the Bronze age. Of the stilt houses made of wood and canes, placed on poles secured on the shores of rivers, lakes, swamps, and sometimes on dry land, little is left that can be seen at first glance (though testaments like tools and crockery can be seen the Natural History Museum of Verona) but for the experts these sites are of the utmost importance to get information about daily life, farming and breeding, primary activities of the primitives.

Bei Pfahlbauten handelt es sich um einzigartige Zeitzeugen antiker Zivilisationen, die zwischen Jungstein- und Bronzezeit in den Alpen siedelten. Selbst wenn von den aus Holz und Reet errichteten Bauten, die auf Pfählen saßen, welche in Fluss-, See-, Sumpf- und mitunter auch trockenen Boden gerammt worden waren, kaum noch unmittelbar Sichtbares erhalten ist: Bedeutsam sind diese Stätten allemal für Experten, die hier reichlich Wissen über Alltag sowie Landwirtschaft und Viehzucht gewissen können, die wichtigsten Betätigungen der Steinzeitmenschen. (Fundstücke wie Werkzeuge und Geschirr sind im Museum für Naturgeschichte in Verona ausgestellt.)
