Look for bird activity away from shore. Discover Gannets diving, or scoters and Common Eiders flocking together in groups called rafts. Along the shore look for shorebirds, such as Sanderlings, Semipalmated Sandpipers or Semipalmated Plovers, feeding on marine worms or small crustaceans. Common birds that nest in the dune include the Spotted Sandpiper, Common Tern, and in the northern regions of Atlantic Canada, the Horned Lark. Observe all nesting birds at a respectable distance and do not disturb them, particularly the endangered Piping Plover. Piping Plover nesting areas are sometimes marked with signs and/or rope fences.
