The area of Merano and environs includes the Ultental Valley to the southwest, the Passeiertal and Schnalstal Valleys to the north and is crossed by the Etschtal Valley. The aristocratic spa town of Merano/Meran lies at the centre, a city with a Mediterranean climate and vegetation: there are magnolias, lemon trees, palms and magnificent flowers wherever you look. Above the city soar mighty 3000-metre peaks, covered with dark coniferous forests and dotted with mountain pines and Alpine roses further up.

La regione di Merano e dintorni comprende a sud-ovest la Val d'Ultimo a nord la Val Passiria e la Val Senales ed è attraversata della Val d’Adige. L'elegante città di Merano ne costituisce il centro, con il suo clima e la vegetazione tipicamente mediterranei: magnolie, alberi di limone, palme e un tripudio di fiori a perdita d'occhio. Merano è abbracciata da impressionanti montagne alte 3000 m ricoperte di boschi di conifere, dove ad alta quota regnano il rododendro e il pino mugo.

Von Blitzen getroffen, vom Wetter gezeichnet, ragen die drei übrig gebliebenen Urlärchen – von den Ultnern „Fledermauslarch“ genannt, weil sie Fledermäusen, Mardern und Eulen Unterschlupf in ihren morschen Baumhöhlen bieten – inzwischen bis zu 36,5 Meter in den Ultner Himmel.

La Val d’Ultimo è senza dubbio una delle valli più autentiche dell’Alto Adige. Non c’è quindi da stupirsi se tre delle conifere più antiche dell’Europa hanno piantato le loro radici proprio qui. Quando nel 1930 un larice millenario fu travolto da una tempesta, si contarono ben 2.000 anelli di accrescimento. Colpiti dai fulmini e segnati dal tempo, i tre larici millenari rimasti in vita si elevano frattanto fino a 36,5 metri nel cielo di Ultimo. Gli ultimesi li chiamano “Fledermauslarch” (larici dei pipistrelli), perché negli incavi degli alberi trovano rifugio pipistrelli, martore e civette. Il più grosso dei tre vanta una circonferenza che supera gli 8 metri. Un palcoscenico della forza della natura, un vero luogo energetico.

Breathtaking scenery as far as the eye can see: steep mountain flanks soar into the sky to form summits that become part of the fantastic panorama. There are endless variations of mountain tours, climbing routes, walks to Alpine huts, of all lengths and degrees of difficulty. The 530 kilometres of trails in the Eggental Valley form the densest network, leading through forests, over meadows and up to the summits of the Rosengarten and Latemar massifs. For tired legs (or simply for a little relief) the lifts are open even in summer on the Rosengarten as well as on the Seiser Alm, Europe’s largest high Alpine pasture. And of course there are also the highlights of the Dolomites themselves, where every mountain has its special qualities: the tour of King Laurin’s Rosengarten, the hike up to the Drei Zinnen Hut and the Pragser Wildsee Lake, considered the most beautiful among the many mountain lakes in the area. Whether you are walking with the family or alone, the Dolomites area is a paradise for walkers!

Scenari mozzafiato ovunque si volga lo sguardo. Ripidi fianchi raggiungono il cielo formando le cime e diventano parte di questo fantastico panorama. Tour alpini, di arrampicata, o per raggiungere rifugi, in tutte le varianti, di tutte le lunghezze e gradi di difficoltà. Nella Val d'Ega 530 km di sentieri formano una rete fitta che porta gli escursionisti attraverso boschi e prati fino alle cime del Catinaccio e del Latemar. Se le gambe sono stanche o si vuole ridurre la fatica, sul Catinaccio e sull'Alpe di Siusi – il pascolo alpino più grande d'Europa – gli impianti di risalita sono aperti anche in estate. Naturalmente anche sulle Dolomiti, dove ogni montagna ha le sue particolarità, ci sono attrazioni speciali: sono il giro del Catinaccio, il “giardino delle rose di Re Laurino”, l'escursione fino al rifugio Tre Cime e il lago di Braies, il più bello dei numerosi laghi montani della zona. Da soli o con tutta la famiglia, l'area delle Dolomiti è il paradiso escursionistico per eccellenza!

The valley bowl around the city lies at an altitude of 260 metres. Its southern vegetation contrasts with the mighty peaks above. The Merano/Meran high-level trail, South Tyrol’s longest, is a demanding tour of the Texel Group nature park! Ancient farms await walkers in the Ultental Valley, where the Schwemmalm is the starting point for numerous marked trails of every degree of difficulty. The Spronser Seen lakes and the Timmelsjoch Pass above the Passeiertal Valley are ideal for walking, while the Schnalstal Valley features a historic atmosphere, steep glacier walls and the site where Ötzi the Iceman was found, best seen on the Ötzi Glacier Tour. Merano and environs form an area marked by contrasts, where empty wildernesses meet an elegant city atmosphere and Mediterranean flora adjoins high Alpine landscapes. Yet there prevails a unique harmony through which walkers can calmly stride.

A 260 m è adagiata la conca di Merano, con la sua vegetazione mediterranea, all'ombra di altissime cime imponenti. L'Alta Via di Merano costituisce un tour un po' più impegnativo intorno al Gruppo di Tessa, il cui omonimo parco naturale è addirittura il più grande dell'Alto Adige! Masi rustici attendono gli escursionisti in Val d'Ultimo, dove il comprensorio escursionistico Schwemmalm rappresenta il punto di partenza per numerose escursioni, munite di segnaletica e adatte a qualsiasi grado di difficoltà. In Val Passiria i laghi di Soprànes e il passo del Rombo sono un vero e proprio invito a fare un'escursione, mentre in Val Senales si gode un'atmosfera ricca di storia, ripide pareti di ghiacciai e si può andare a trovare Ötzi. Per visitare il luogo esatto in cui è stato ritrovato l'uomo dei ghiacci si può partecipare a un Ötzi Glacier Tour. Merano e dintorni è il regno dei contrasti: natura selvaggia e incontaminata insieme all'elegante fascino della città, vegetazione mediterranea e territori alpini ad alta quota. Tutto vive in un'armonia che gli escursionisti avvertono sulla pelle.
