Lorsquun messager apporte la nouvelle de la mort de Polybe et de sa femme, dipe et Jocaste sont soulagés car la malédiction semble avoir été détournée. Mais le messager poursuit et révèle qudipe nest pas lenfant des princes, mais dun berger de Laïus, roi de Thèbes.

When a messenger brings news of the death of Polybos and his wife, Oedipus and Jocasta are relieved as the curse appears to have been averted. However, when the messenger reveals that Oedipus was not the legitimate child of the royal couple but had been abandoned by a shepherd of King Laius of Thebes, first Jocasta and then Oedipus discover the real truth. Despite all attempts on the part of his natural parents and those affected by the curse, all events prophesised have inevitably come to pass. Jocasta hangs herself and Oedipus leaves Thebes after having blinded himself.[1]

Cuando un mensajero trae la noticia de la muerte de Polybos y su esposa, Edipo y Yocasta se alivian ya que la maldición parece haber sido evitada. Sin embargo, cuando el mensajero revela que Edipo no era el hijo legítimo de la pareja real, pero que había sido abandonado por un pastor del rey Layo de Tebas, Yocasta, Edipo descubre más tarde la verdad. A pesar de todos los intentos por parte de sus padres naturales y aquellos afectados por la maldición, todos los eventos profetizados tienen inevitablemente que suceder. Yocasta se ahorca y Edipo abandona Tebas después de haberse cegado a sí mismo.[1]
