In The Star building, Dr. Philip Edwards of Montreal was presented Saturday evening with the first replica of the Lou Marsh Memorial trophy, donated by Charlie Ring, Toronto sportsman, to be presented yearly to the outstanding athlete in all Canada. Edwards, named the first winner, all dressed up in his dinner jacket, is shown above holding the replica just presented to him. In the centre is the beautiful sombre black and white marble shaft of the Lou Marsh trophy, with Edwards’ name engraved on the lead off spot. The donor, Chas. E. Ring of Mimico, who made the presentation to Dr. Edwards, is shown RIGHT. He told the large group of Toronto sport authorities present that the Lou Marsh Memorial trophy stood for a sportsmanship and athletic ability. Every lane of sport was represented at the gathering and the presentation was made in the glare of klieg lights and the humming of movie cameras. The ceremony itself was short, with Mr. Elwood Hughes as chairman, substituting for Mr. P. J. Mulqueen, who is indisposed; Mr. Charles Ring, as the donor, and Mr. J. E. Atkinson, president of The Star, congratulating Phil on being the first winner of the trophy.
