Trogir is a small town situated in the heart of Dalmatia, 25 km west from Split, and it counts around 13 000 inhabitants. Trogir is in fact a small island connected by a stone bridge with the land, and in front of it lies the island of Ciovo. With its vivid millenium-long history and important cultural-historical monuments, Trogir stands out among other Dalmatian cities. Being one of the best preserved medieval towns it was ncluded in 1997 into UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. The most famous monument in Trogir is St Lovre's Cathedral characerized by a blend of various architectural styles, as well as by its rich interior. What makes this cathedral even more special is the Portal od Master Radovan, on of the most notable and most beautiful works of roman-gothic style in Europe. Other sights include Big and small palace Cipiko, Northern gate, The town museum, Tower of St Mark and the fortress Kamerlengo, among the others. The whole town is like a museum under the open sky, well worth visiting. Trogir is also very popular among the world's yachtmen, so its port serves as a haven for man luxurious yachts, whle the twn promenade is every night crowded with lively foreign and domestic visitors who came there to admire this beautiful town or try some of the Dalmatian specialties in restaurants on the promenade or in the charming narrow streets. During hot summer days it is advisable to spend the day on some of the numerous beautiful sandy or pebble beaches and take a swim in the crystal-clear Adriatic sea. Another important advantage of Trogir is taht is situated just a few kilometres away from the international airport.
