Die Länder im Sicherheitsrat leisten unterschiedliche Beiträge zur Erhaltung des Friedens und der internationalen Sicherheit. Es stimmt, dass die fünf ständigen Mitglieder des Sicherheitsrats eine massgebende Rolle spielen.

Countries with a seat on the Security Council contribute in many ways to safeguarding peace and international security. Of course, the five permanent members play a dominant role. Nevertheless, it would be wrong to think that other members, regardless of their size, cannot bring their influence to bear. First of all, they are called on to vote on all Security Council decisions, which is a key responsibility. It also offers them an opportunity to advance a specific vision of peace and security through initiatives with which they can win the support of other members. Thanks to its image as an independent country which is committed to humanitarian values and peace, Switzerland is well-placed to forge alliances and thus to act effectively on the Security Council.

Les pays qui siègent au Conseil de sécurité apportent des contributions diverses à la paix et la sécurité internationale. Il est clair que les cinq membres permanents jouent un rôle prépondérant. Cela étant dit, il serait faux de penser que les autres membres, quelle que soit leur taille, n’ont pas d’influence. En premier lieu, ils sont appelés à voter sur toutes les décisions du Conseil de sécurité. Il s’agit d’une responsabilité importante. D’autre part, c’est l’occasion pour eux de promouvoir une certaine vision de la paix et la sécurité à travers des initiatives pour lesquelles ils peuvent gagner le soutien des autres membres. La Suisse, avec son profil de pays indépendant engagé au service des valeurs humanitaires et de paix, est bien positionnée pour forger des alliances et ainsi mener une action efficace au Conseil de sécurité.

I Paesi che hanno un seggio nel Consiglio di sicurezza contribuiscono in modi diversi alla pace e alla sicurezza internazionale. I cinque membri permanenti svolgono, ovviamente, un ruolo preponderante. Tuttavia, sarebbe errato pensare che gli altri membri, a prescindere dalle loro dimensioni, non abbiano la possibilità di esercitare alcun influsso. In primo luogo, sono chiamati a votare su tutte le decisioni del Consiglio di sicurezza. Si tratta di una responsabilità importante. D’altro lato, la loro presenza nel Consiglio di sicurezza consente loro di promuovere una determinata visione della pace e della sicurezza tramite iniziative per le quali possono ottenere il sostegno degli altri membri. La Svizzera, grazie al suo profilo di Paese indipendente impegnato a favore dei valori umanitari e della pace, è ben posizionata per stringere alleanze e svolgere un’azione efficace nel Consiglio di sicurezza.
