Dünya barışını korumak amacıyla kurulan Birleşmiş Milletler (BM), öğrenciler tarafından yeniden yorumlandı. İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi’nde 5 kıtadan bir araya gelen 200 öğrenci dünyanın boğuştuğu güncel sorunları tartışarak, ülkeler adına çözüm buldu.

United Nations (UN), which was founded with the purpose of achieving world peace, was re-interpreted by students. 200 students from 5 continents all around the world came together at Izmir University of Economics and discussed the current issues in the world and came up with solutions on behalf of countries. Young individuals between the ages of 16 – 25, discussed their opinions under the flags of the represented countries at the event titled, “ECOMUN 2015 Model United Nations Conference”, and tried to bring a permanent peace.

Delice Başkanı Jean Michael Daclin de 2007 yılında kurulan Delice ağını geliştirmek için bugüne kadar çok çalıştıklarını ve 4 kıtadan 23 kentin üyeleri olduğunu söyledi. Türkiye’nin bulunduğu coğrafyadan üyeleri olmadığına dikkat çeken Daclin, “Oysa Türkiye’ye giden herkesin buradaki yemeklerle ilgili güzel ve mutlu anıları vardır. Türk mutfağı ünlü bir mutfaktır. Bu nedenle İzmir’in ağımıza katılmasından büyük mutluluk duyuyoruz. İzmir önemli ve güzel yemekleri olan önemli bir kent” dedi.

Delice President Jean Michael Daclin told that they have been working hard to enhance the Delice network which was established in 2007 and they had 23 member cities from 4 continents, and none from the geography Turkey is located at. Daclin said, “Everyone who travelled to Turkey has in fact nice memories about the food there. Turkish cuisine is well known. Therefore, we are very pleased to have Izmir joined our network. Izmir is such an important city with fine dining.”

İzmir'in 4 kıtadan 23 şehrin üye olduğu Gurme Şehirler Ağı'na girebilmesinin kolay bir iş olmadığını, birliğin bu konuda son derece seçici davrandığını vurgulayan Başkan Demirtaş, “Ege'yi gastronomi konusunda dünyaya açmak istiyoruz. Dünyada, Çin ve İtalyan restoranları varken neden Ege restoranı olmasın diye düşünüyoruz. Bir süre sonra dünyanın önemli merkezlerinde Ege restoranlarını açabiliriz. İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi'nin de katkılarıyla değerlerimizi öne çıkarak gastronomide dünyada söz sahibi olmak istiyoruz” dedi.

Ekrem Demirtaş,Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and President of Izmir University of Economics, stated that the first congress gained a significant meaning by the attendance of Jean Michel Daclin, President of DELICE Network of Gourmet Cities.Demirtaş said that it was not easy for Izmir to join Network of Gourmet Cities formed by 24 leading cities from 4 continents, that the network was very selective when it came to new members. President Demirtaş said, “We want to promote Aegean to the whole world. There are Chinese, Italian restaurants worldwide, why wouldn’t there be Aegean restaurants. We can open up Aegean restaurants in important centers worldwide in time. We want to have a say in gastronomy worldwide by highlighting our values with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality”.

Viola, who conducted a workshop to share his expertize with the young chefs, had a chance to taste exquisite flavours of Aegean Cuisine and stated that worldwide recognition of Turkish cuisine would increase with the efforts of prospective chefs. Chef Viola, owner of 2 Michelin Starred restaurants in France said, “Lyon is a city with many world famous restaurants. I was awarded the title of ‘Best Chef of France’ in 2004. This competition is held every four years and approximately 800 chefs apply for it. They all compete in order to achieve the prestige award. 50 chefs make it to the finals, eventually narrowing it down to 3 chefs. The winner holds the title of 'Meilleur Ouvrier de France' for life. It is a difficult process but very flattering at the same time. 6 student chefs to be selected from Izmir University of Economics will receive training at Michelin Starred restaurants next summer. They will learn the process of introducing the rich structure of Turkish and Aegean Cuisine worldwide.”

Bir yandan daha fazla yabancı öğrenci ve öğretim elemanı üniversitemize gelmekte, diğer yandan öğrenci ve öğretim üyelerimiz daha fazla dünya ile bütünleşmektedir. Bu konuda gösterdiğimiz çabaların sonucu olarak kampüsümüz giderek daha kozmopolit hale gelmiştir. Beş kıtadan, 62 farklı ülkeden öğrencilerimiz kampüs yaşantımızın zenginleşmesine katkıda bulunmaktadır. 2006-2015 yılları arasında değişim programları ile 21 Avrupa ülkesinden 456 öğrenci gelmiş, 438 öğrenci Avrupa’ya gitmiştir. Artık mezunlarımız, aldıkları nitelikli eğitimin sonuçlarını küresel rekabet ortamında başarıyla sergiliyor. Mezunlarımızın başarılarıyla gurur duyuyoruz.”

“All our efforts to create multi-dimensional, multi-cultured learning environment as a means to establish internationalization within the University, is to prepare our students for the 21st century citizenship. On one hand, more and more foreign natural academicians and students come to our University, and on the other hand, our students and faculty members get engaged in more worlds. Our campus is becoming more cosmopolite as a result of our efforts on this subject. Students from five continents, 623 countries help enrich our campus life. Exchange programs in 2006-2015 resulted in 456 students from 21 European countries visiting us, and 438 IUE students going abroad. We clearly see the outcomes of graduates’ achievements in a global competition arena. We are very proud of their successes.”
