"I'd definitely advise any bands or artists with any ambition to further their career path into music on applying for SXSW. We've applied every year for the last three years and it just so happened that three was our lucky number. Once our application to play SXSW via Sonicbids was accepted, we knew we would have to apply for funding for any chance of being able to fund our trip there. I've gotta say the staff at Wales Arts International / Arts Council of Wales were extremely helpful from day one of contacting them and we couldn't have done it without them.

Having just wrapped up their first North American tour supporting Lorde, UTRB, the three piece band fronted by Cardiff native, Peter Lawrie Winfield recall how as youngsters you would "give a girl or a friend a mixtape to let them know what music you loved. It didn't matter if one song was De La Soul and the next was R.E.M. It was about the feeling the entire collection conveyed."

When planning your trip to SXSW, think about what you want to get from the trip. Whether it be contacting festival promoters, booking agents, management companies, people who work in synchronising your music for TV & Film, the list goes on. It all depends on what stage you're at as an artist. As we were already lucky enough to have management and a booking agent we felt we really needed to contact someone who works in Syncing music. We'd already been in contact via email with someone at Sentric Music and we met up with a representative after our second show in Texas. We've been in contact with him ever since, having given us a number of Sync opportunities. Whilst we were there we also got in contact with someone who works at SESAC, which is a performing rights organisation. Since that meeting we were invited to play their curated stage at Liverpool Sound City.

Mae Burum wedi chwarae ym mhrif ŵyl Jazz Cymru, Gŵyl Jazz Aberhonddu, ac wedi perfformio yng Ngŵyl Geltaidd Lorient, Llydaw, yn ogystal ag yn Washington DC ar gyfer Gŵyl Gwerin y Smithsonian. Aeth Burum ar daith lwyddiannus o'r India ym 2014, a byddant yn dychwelyd yna mis Tachwedd eleni ar gyfer taith a perfformiadau yn Ngŵyliau Jazz Goa a Kolkata.

Tomos Williams (Burum) Tomos is the trumpeter and bandleader of the unique Welsh jazz /folk band Burum. Burum blend Welsh traditional melodies with the dynamics and improvisation of modern jazz. Burum have played at Wales premiere jazz festival - The International Brecon Jazz Festival and have performed at the Lorient Interceltique Festival, Brittany, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC. The band toured India in 2014 and will return in November 2015 for a tour and performances at the Goa and Kolkata Jazz Festivals. Burum will also begin a collaboration with Indian musicians on this tour (tabla, serengi and guitar) to create new music fusing Welsh and Indian traditional music and jazz. Tomos is also a member of ground-breaking Welsh folk band 'Fernhill' who have been playing internationally for over 15 years. Tomos received a Creative Wales grant from the Arts Council of Wales in 2012.
