Metal halide lamps ( Światło dzienne z UV-B ) are the top choice for animals requiring sunlight, ultraviolet light (i.e. diurnal animals) and heat. They offer a full spectrum that is sunlight simulating, including UV-A and B radiation, along with heat emission for the terrarium. Accordingly, the temperature in the terrarium decreases after the lamps are switched off, thereby simulating the desired night-time drop in temperature. The JBL L-U-W lamps are available in three different wattages and two versions, depending on whether the animals require a lot of UV ( JBL ReptilDesert L-U-W Light alu ) or less UV ( JBL ReptilJungle L-U-W Light alu ).

Wir möchten niemandem Angst machen, aber die folgende, traurige Geschichte, hat sich im letzten Jahr ereignet und hat sich dieses Jahr NICHT wiederholt: Ein Teichbesitzer musste unerwartet schnell in’s Ausland reisen und übertrug bei moderaten Außentemperaturen um die 10 °C die Fütterung seiner noch aktiven Koi und Karpfen (in einem sehr großen Naturteich) seinem Schwiegervater.

We don’t want to frighten anyone, but the following sad story happened last year and did NOT repeat itself this year: A pond owner unexpectedly needed to go abroad at short notice and delegated the feeding of his still active koi and carps (in moderate external temperatures of around 10 °C, in a very large natural pond) to his father-in-law. The father-in-law merrily fed the pond fish with the sort of food you can buy in any DIY store. The food had no temperature recommendations for the feeding. The last feed took place in the afternoon before the disaster occurred. During the night there was a temperature drop from about 15 °C to – 5 °C. An ice cover formed overnight and, because the temperature didn’t rise again, it became thicker and thicker. During the course of the following day more and more dead carp and koi could be seen floating directly under the ice cover. In the course of time the dead animals froze in the ice. The photo shows the pond at that time. When the owner returned all his animals had perished in the pond and he rang me. From his description of the events we identified the food/feeding as the cause of death. The pond was then newly stocked with 70 koi and for low temperatures between 5 and 15 °C JBL ProPond Winter M was purchased. As the temperature dropped again a few days ago no losses occurred and the animals are still visible swimming beneath the ice. It is essential that fish in low water temperatures are given easily digestible food with a protein/fat ratio of 2:1. This way you and your fish are on the safe side!

Vous chaufferez donc toujours une partie seulement du terrarium avec par exemple des tapis chauffants ou vous installerez le spot uniquement sur un côté du terrarium. Certains animaux peuvent avoir besoin d’une température moins élevée la nuit que dans la journée. Souvent la température chute du seul fait d'éteindre l'éclairage, mais il peut aussi être nécessaire de débrancher aussi les tapis chauffants la nuit.

As in the wild, the individual elements of climate influence each other and are subject to the changes occurring in the course of a day. The relative humidity normally decreases in parallel with an increase in the duration of operation of the lighting and heating equipment. This must be taken into account when selecting a terrarium. The individual climate parameters usually change quickly in a small tank, and therefore need to be optimised continually by the use of sophisticated control technology or repeated manual intervention. In large tanks, the climatic factors change much more slowly and it is easier to create zones with different microclimates (zones of different temperatures and humidities) so the animals can seek out places with the climatic conditions they prefer at a given time.

Die ermittelten Werte sind immer in Abhängigkeit von der Wassertiefe zu betrachten, die in unseren gleichmäßig durchströmten Aquarien allerdings zu vernachlässigen ist. Ob die Temperatur oder der Sauerstoffgehalt zu einer lebensfeindlichen Umgebung führte, ist an dieser Stelle nicht deutlich. Unter dem Suchbegriff „heat shock protein“ können Sie herausfinden, dass das Eiweiß der Fische vermutlich zwischen 40-45 °C denaturiert und bis zu diesem Punkt ein Leben im Wasser möglich ist (für den Organismus).
