Les étudiant-e-s qui complètent un mémoire ou une thèse sur le même sujet de recherche que le chercheur sont employé-e-s avec une "Bourse de recherche à financement provisoire". Seulement les étudiant-e-s à temps plein peuvent être employé-e-s avec cette bourse pour un maximum de 5 heures par semaine, et ils ou elles ne sont pas admissibles aux mêmes avantages et congés que les assistants de recherche (sauf une déduction d'impôts à la source de 1% de frais de cotisation).
Students completing their thesis on the same topic as the research topic of the researcher are hired under "Soft-Funded Research Bursary". Only full-time students are employed under this bursary for a maximum of 5 hours a week, and are not eligible for the same benefits and holidays as research assistants (only 1% union dues payroll deduction for income tax).

The winner of this year's competition is Jean-Bosco Iyakaremye, who is currently finishing his third year in the doctoral program at the Faculty of Law. Working under the supervision of Professor Muriel Paradelle, he is in the process of completing his thesis entitled "La prévention du génocide : un défi possible à reliever" . Jean-Bosco's seminar, entitled « Génocides, crimes de guerre, et crimes contre l'humanité », draws upon many of the concepts from his area of research. This course will be offered in French, and will be held on Mondays, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Le professeur Markus W. Gehring a complété sa maîtrise en droit européen et en droit constitutionnel comparé à l'Université de Yale, et son doctorat à l'Université d'Hambourg. Sa thèse doctorale portait sur le développement durable en droit des affaires internationales.
Markus W. Gehring has extensive experience in various areas of expertise in both the private and public sectors. He is socially involved and campaigns actively for environmental law and sustainable development. Several of his many publications also address these topics. Among them, Professor Gehring has published two books that contribute substantially to sustainable development law in the context of international investment with Kluwer International, an international publishing company (Sustainable Development in World Trade Law, 2005 and Sustainable Development in World Investment Law, 2010). He is co-editing the book series on Sustainable development law with Cambridge University Press and the first two volumes will be published in 2012. He has acted and still acts as director, advisor, researcher and lecturer in several European and American institutions.
