Die zum Aufnahmegespräch eingeladenen Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten stellen sich während 20 Minuten den Fragen der Jury. Die Jury besteht aus mindestens zwei Mitgliedern des Lenkungsausschusses der Graduate School of the Arts. Bei Bedarf kann der Lenkungsausschuss externe Expertinnen und Experten (ohne Stimmrecht) beiziehen. Auf Wunsch der vorgesehenen Betreuerinnen und Betreuer können auch diese am Aufnahmegespräch ohne Stimmrecht teilnehmen.

Accompagnés par un mentor ou une menta, ou encore dans le cadre d’ateliers d’écriture, des textes de tous genres sont écrits, discutés, retravaillés. En troisième année, les étudiant-e-s rédigent un travail théorique en plus de leur thèse de Bachelor qui est constituée par un travail littéraire abouti de plus grande envergure.

Im Zentrum des Studiums steht die eigene Textproduktion. Begleitet durch einen Mentor, eine Mentorin und in verschiedenen Schreibateliers werden Texte (alle Gattungen sind möglich) geschrieben, besprochen und überarbeitet. Im dritten Jahr verfassen die Studierenden neben einer theoretischen Arbeit ihre Bachelorthese – eine längere, in sich geschlossene literarische Arbeit. Die Abschlussarbeiten werden in einer öffentlichen Lesung Ende Juni präsentiert und in Auszügen publiziert. Das Studium schliesst mit dem Titel Bachelor in Literarischem Schreiben ab und qualifiziert zur Bewerbung für fachverwandte Masterstudiengänge an einer Fachhochschule.

He completed his doctorate in 1996 with an interdisciplinary work on libretto-research. Thomas Beck has been living in Switzerland for 14 years. He worked as a music dramaturg and later as the head dramaturg of the Theater St. Gallen, before he started to work for the Schweizer Fernsehen (Swiss Television, SF) in Zurich.

The GSA is a collaboration between the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Bern and of the Bern University of the Arts (itself a department of the Bern University of Applied Sciences). It offers an interdisciplinary doctoral programme that is intended for both artists engaged in research and scholars with an interest in artistic praxis. In the GSA, theory and practice engage closely with each other, as do practice-oriented research and pure research. In the GSA, the doctoral students realize their own project in a stimulating environment that introduces them to scholarly and artistic networks. The students profit from synergies between the two universities and can establish specific areas of competence.

De 1993 à 1999, elle a effectué des études d’art libres (« Freie Kunst ») à la haute école d’arts plastiques de Braunschweig ainsi que de philologie anglaise, de pédagogie et de psychologie à l’université technique de cette même ville. Elle est en train de terminer une thèse de doctorat à la haute école d’arts plastiques de Braunschweig.

Head of the Design and Fine Arts Department Barbara Mauck was born in Wolfenbüttel/Germany in 1969, received her A levels/Abitur in England and then pursued professional training as a writer in Germany. In the years from 1993-1999, she studied "Freie Kunst" (Free Arts) at the Academy for Visual Arts Braunschweig and English Language and Literature, Pedagogy and Psychology at the Technical University Braunschweig. She is currently completing her dissertation at the Academy for Visual Arts Braunschweig. After various teaching positions in the artistic and cultural science sector, Barbara Mauck led the post-graduate programme of the Summer Academy of the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, she worked as the Deputy Head of the Cultural Institute of the City of Braunschweig in the Areas Visual Arts, Art in Public Spaces and Remembrance Culture. Since 2004, within the framework of semester and diploma talks, Barbara Mauck has had the opportunity to get to know the University of Arts Bern. Since the 1st July 2009, she has been the Head of the Design and Fine Arts Department of the UAB.
