Department of Fashion Design that prepared the concept of the fashion show tells both the look of the designer to East and birth, the miracle of the nature. 20 collections prepared under the supervision of Berrin Gönen, and that will be presented in the fashion show are created by the designers that brought a new approach, hope and future. Some of the designers chose a specialty from Turkey and some turned their face to Fareast. Although their starting point is different, the common characteristic of the collection is to glorify authentic handcrafts that sunk into oblivion.

He did not exist in Twitter as Atilla Taş in the beginning and experienced great prejudice from people, stated Taş. He said that he discovered the potential in this area and when he revealed his real identity, the number of his followers went from one thousand 500’s to almost 300’s. “I was in social media under a different name. When I announced I was Atilla Taş, my followers went down to 300’s. There was an enormous misconception. I wasn’t sharing political tweets. I was able to break the ice with my tweet during Gezi events where I said, ‘There was no need for all this pepper spray in Taksim. If I gave a concert, there would not be any people around, they would all be vanished’. People realized that I was making fun of myself,” said Atilla Taş.

İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi’nin eğitim dilinin İngilizce olmasının büyük bir avantaj olduğunu belirten Sabi, “Bugüne dek çok şanslı olduğumu düşünüyorum. İngilizce ve uluslararası bir eğitim aldım. Akademisyen olmak istiyorum. Bunun yanı sıra doktoramı tamamlayıp ülkeme dönüp, ülkemin ekonomik kalkınmasında da yer almak istiyorum. İzmir’de, Türkiye’de okuduğum için çok şanslıyım. Burası benim ikinci vatanım ve ben İzmir’in gönüllü elçisiyim” diye konuştu.

Sabi, who reported that he wanted to start his Ph.D. studies in economics, stated he wanted to become an academician. He said that the fact that medium of instruction being English at Izmir University of Economics was a big advantage. “I feel like I’ve been lucky so far. I’ve received international standard education in English. I want to become an academician. Additionally, I hope to complete my doctoral studies, go back to my country and contribute to the economic development of my homeland. I am very lucky to have been in Izmir, Turkey. It has become my second homeland and I am a volunteer ambassador of Izmir,” said Sabi.

Canbulat said that he re-interpreted the forgotten recipes thus making his guests capture the beautiful tastes from the past. He reported that the word “Levan (levain)” meant yeast from a bread in addition to meaning new generation. Canbulat reported that guests were welcome in his kitchen where they can be a part of all the processes. He said that they took a step towards world cuisine with internationally recognized chefs at Izmir University of Economics. “We try to make changes without harming the essence of traditional flavors. The biggest contribution of the education I received at the University is the vision it gave me. I was able to realize my “Lokanta Levan” project with this vision and entrepreneurship. And living in Urla helps getting seasonal fresh produce and meat. I am serving the products I purchased from local producers with traditional methods. My guests saying that they are able to taste the old and familiar flavors that are dying out, which is a proof that I am on the right track,” said Canbulat.

Gülce Özgülşenler top student of the 2008-2009 academic year made a speech later and said, “You know even the longest journeys start with a small step. 4 years before, our steps while entering this school were small but our dreams were big. Our steps grew and our dreams were almost real. In the globalizing world in which rivalry was increasing day by day, we took the power that we needed from İzmir University of Economics. Academically, I believe that I have a great advantage since I am graduating from Department of International Trade and Finance and Department of Economics thanks to Double Major Program. I can use my second foreign language Spanish fluently that I learned from experienced teachers. With the help of the qualified education I received, I am accepted to Lund University in Sweden and I won scholarship. However, after the four-year qualified education I received at İzmir University of Economics, I decided to continue my master’s education in Finance Economy program in here. I am choosing İzmir University of Economics for the second time and I am very proud of it.”

Engin Kıbrıslı, IUE Graduate (2011) and member of the Executive Board of ITO Health and Education Foundation, reported that 5 years have passed since his graduation, and he had been a member of Izmir University of Economics for 10 years. Kıbrıslı said, “I’ve received a decent education at the University. The University also offered me chance to become the administrator of many clubs and organizations. I’ve noticed that I had a place in international business world after I graduated. I am working at a Japanese based international company. I strongly believe that we each have a duty to take our university forward even though we have graduated.”

The talks continued with the speech of Prof. Dr. Eser KÖKER from Ankara University in which he evaluated the maternal role of the women. He told that motherhood was a difficult process that exhausts the women biologically, physically and psychologically, and the moment of birth was not as pleasant and emotional as the photographers reflect or the atmosphere created by the people around the mother. Prof. Dr. Köker said, “The birth process is very painful and the baby does not look beautiful with the sticky liquid on it.”

Ergin, “Kooperatifde çalışırken çok mutluyum. Papatya gibi açıyorum. Bebeği işlerken de bu mutluluğumu yansıtmak istedim. Bu nedenle bebeğe papatyalı bir kıyafet diktim” diye konuştu.

Gülsün Ergin, a member of the Ödemiş Women’s Coop, who participated in the project, indicated that she wanted to project happiness. Ergin said, “I feel very happy when I work at the coop. I blossom like a daisy and I wanted to reflect this upon the doll, so I seamed a dress with daisy patterns on it.” Another member, Gülen Arkant indicated that they loved creating the dolls as producing women. She stated that she wanted to emphasize the insincerity of the present time in her doll.

Merve Çelebi, who graduated from her second university some 20 years later, graduated as the top student of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. Çelebi quit working her job as Director of Foreign Economic Relations at Izmir Chamber of Commerce when she had her daughter Maya in 2005, and opened the door to her dream profession when she took the university exams again in 2010. Çelebi also set an example to her family members by graduating from a second university years later. Çelebi’s economist sister studies graphic design, and her optometrist husband’s sister studies photography.

“Diyabetli hastalarda gelişen bir değişiklik de ayak tabanında basınç artışıdır. Nöropatili hastaların en az yüzde 75’inin ayakları normalden geniştir. Ekstra geniş ayakkabı giyseler de yarısında ayakkabı sorunu vardır. Ayağın anatomik yapısındaki değişimler ya da yanlış ayakkabı kullanımına bağlı oluşan basınç değişiklikleri reaksiyon olarak nasırların oluşumunu başlatır. Oluşan nasırlar, diyabetik ayakta yara açılmasının öncüsü olarak algılanmalıdır. Diyabetli hastaların ayakları yara oluşumu açısından risk altındadır. Yaralar geç iyileştiği için iş gücü kaybı, sağlık masraflarının ve hastanede kalış süresinin artması ile ikinci bir kişiye bağımlılığı beraberinde getirir. Bu nedenle başta hastanın eğitimi olmak üzere, kan şekeri ve kilo takibi, ayak basınç problemlerini düzelten uygun ayakkabı, günlük ayak bakımını içeren kontrol önlemleri alınmalıdır.”

“Patients with diabetes experience a pressure increase in the soles of their feet. 75% of people with neuropathy have wider feet. Half of them experience problems even though they wear wider shoes. Anatomic deformities or wrong shoes cause calluses, which in time cause wounds in diabetic foot. Since it takes long time for wounds to heal, people often experience problems such as loss of workforce, health expenses, overstaying at hospitals, dependency on an attendant, etc. Therefore, precautionary measures as educating the patients, monitoring their blood sugar levels and weights, proper shoes that regulate foot pressure and daily care of feet are extremely important.”

“We’ve interviewed prospective mothers about how maternity rooms should be like. It is clear that many components of interior architecture have impact on birth. Even a prospective mother having contractions is being subject to the screams of another prospective mother, can have negative impacts on birth. Dialogues with hospital staff are also important. Again, disorganized furniture, or prospective father not being in the room may also affect negatively. While in other countries prospective fathers experience the whole birthing process with their partners, in Turkey they can only see the baby after birth. Fathers are not allowed in wards which effects mother-father-baby union. Time here plays a role as well. Other family members want to be part of the process. The outcomes of this study may allow interior designs to support birthing process. It is important that the whole childbirth, which mothers may get scared, anxious, or thrilled about, takes place at a comforting environment that meets the needs. Since childbirth is not an illness, spatial features should also be taken into account when it comes to designing.”
