Castel Rametz is about an hour on foot and some 15 minutes by car from the Hotel Erzherzog Johann. A wine estate, it stands on a moraine hill with well-drained soil, whose location in the basin of Merano offers ideal conditions for wine growing. This special situation enables the carefully tended vineyards with their guyot vine training to produce exceptionally high-quality grapes, which are then made into outstanding wines using the latest cellaring technology.

La cantina è stata ampliata, secondo le norme ambientali, con una struttura poco visibile, in quanto nascosta sotto i vigneti. Nel rispetto della lunga tradizione, ma allo stesso tempo orientati al futuro, vengono prodotti vini di alta qualità, utilizzando esclusivamente le proprie uve di Terlano e Caldaro.

The wonderful south-facing slopes of this historic wine estate (dating back to 1608) overlook Lake Caldaro. The cellar extension, scarcely visible between the grapevines, sees tradition blended with forward-looking techniques to produce quality wines of character, using only grapes from the winery’s own vineyards in Terlano and Caldaro. Retail sales and tours (on appointment).

Dal 1.1.2010 la Cantina Vini Merano e la Cantina Merano Burggräfler si sono associate e quest’ultima è oggi la più grande cantina vinicola del Burgraviato, cui microproduttori e piccole imprese, con vigneti sui pendii soleggiati delle colline altoatesine, consegnano le loro uve provenienti da Lana, Cermes Marlengo, Lagundo, Merano, Tirolo, Rifiano, Caines e Scena.

The Merano and Burggräfler wineries merged as of 1 January 2010. The Burggräfler winery is now the largest cellar in the Burggrafenamt area, drawing on mini- and micro-vineyards situated on sunny slopes in Lagundo, Tirolo, Caines, Rifiano, Scena, Marlegno, Cermes and Lana. The finest wines are produced from the grape varieties that thrive in Meran, such as Vernatsch, Weissburgunder (Pinot Bianco), Chardonnay, Müller Thurgau, Ruländer (Pinot Grigio), Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, Goldmuskateller, etc. Wines from both wineries are now available at both locations, in Marlengo and in Merano. We offer a selection of wines from the Burggräfler winery at the Hotel Erzherzog Johann. Here is a brief excerpt from our wine list:

Da molti anni l’azienda utilizza tecniche ecologiche, coltivando i vigneti secondo metodi Il lavoro nei vigneti si regola secondo metodi, ritmi e cicli della natura, nonché regole della protezione integrata. Dal 2004 l’intera azienda fu convertita alla coltivazione biodinamica con l’obiettivo, a lungo termine, di migliorare l’equilibrio biologico, la vitalità della vite e la qualità delle uve.

The historic Casòn Hirschprunn, dating from the 13th century has been carefully rebuilt and updated since its acquisition by Alois Lageder in 1991. Work in the vineyards is governed by the rhythms and cycles of nature, with organic wines produced in an environmentally-friendly way for many years now with the entire cultivation process converted to biodynamic methods since 2004. The long-term goal is to enhance the biological balance and vitality of the vines and further improve the quality of the grapes.
