During the first week in October there will be two gigs arranged that are part of the ‘Musicians Against Homelessness’ activities. These gigs are arranged all over Britain and the idea has been developed by Alan McGee that has, over the years., managed bands such as Oasis. Over Britain the money raised is going towards the charity Crisis who works with homeless people in London, but as these gigs are arranged in Gwynedd half of the money raised will go towards the GISDA does with young vulnerable and homeless people.

Ymunodd Tudor â Bwrdd GISDA fel cynrychiolydd Cyngor Gwynedd ac roedd yn ymddiddori yng ngwasanaethau GISDA oherwydd ei gysylltiadau â’r pwyllgorau tai a gofal. Roedd hefyd yn gwybod am waith da GISDA gyda phobl ifanc.

Tudor is the Chair of Gwynedd Council. He is also a member of Caernarfon Town Council where he has been the Mayor on two occasions. He has served both Councils for over 20 years and is the Vice- Chair with Noddfa, Chair with Tŷ Pobl Peblig and is on several committees including the Fire Service. Before retirement he was self-employed in his own local building business and has been married for over 40 years. Tudor has two sons, three grandsons and a granddaughter. His interests are socialising and playing golf although these days he is too busy to play! He also enjoys gardening. Tudor joined GISDA’s Board as Gwynedd Council’s representative and had an interest in GISDA’s services due to his connections with the housing and care committees. He was also aware of GISDA’s good work with young people.

The Duke and Duchess will gain an overview of the charity’s work by meeting young people that benefit from GISDA’s services. They will be visiting one of GISDA’s social enterprises –‘ ‘Te a Cofi’. ‘Te a Cofi’ is a café and catering training centre that offers young people work experience and training opportunities. Providing supported work experience to young people will help them achieve and gain the experience needed to gain paid employment and move on to independent living. They will also be meeting several other young people and will have the opportunity to listen to some of their stories and to hear about some of the challenges that faces them.

Nia came to work for GISDA in August 2014 as a Project Manager. She’s responsible for the Mentro Mlaen project that supports young people between 14 and 25 years old to increase their skills and experience, so that they can feel more confident for the workplace. They will gain confidence through activities, offer accreditations and work experiences. She’s responsible for 3 project worker and 1 Senior Therapeutic Worker.

By creating voluntary opportunities we can give people the skills they need to enable them to move on to employment. Unemployment amongst young people in the area, including GISDA’s young people is high. Volunteering opportunities can help people who have been out of work for a long or short period of time by making them employable and give them the chance and support they need. Already we can see that the project has developed and grown a lot and has had a positive effect on our volunteers.

In addition to the support to get access to work, there is another important element to the project, the Therapeutic Intervention. Through a Therapeutic Senior Worker, we will be trying and relieve some of the issues  that affect young people, through therapeutic services such as Mediation, Anger Management workshops, Intercession and so on, we’ll support the personal development of a young person.

Like many other charities GISDA is facing extremely challenging times, as a result of severe funding cuts, the level of services that we can offer young people will inevitably be affected. In light of these impending cuts, GISDA sees this as a unique opportunity to showcase the invaluable work that is being done at the present. All of GISDA’s projects contribute to the Welsh Government National agenda to tackle poverty and therefore it’s vitally important that the Investment in our Services continues. The need is there. We are grateful to the Welsh Government, Gwynedd Council and the Lottery as our 3 main funders; we hope we can continue to work together to reach the goal of ending youth homelessness, of tackling poverty and to provide and equal opportunity to all Young people who may at a disadvantage for all sorts of reasons.

Rwy’n hoffi actio ac roeddwn yn ddiolchgar am y cyfle i gymryd rhan yng ngweithdy’r theatr fforwm. Pan ddywedodd Osian ar ddydd Llun y byddai’n cael pob un ohonom i wneud perfformiad erbyn diwedd yr wythnos, doeddwn i ddim yn siŵr, ond yn union fel y dywedodd, gwnaethom roi perfformiad da erbyn dydd Gwener. Roedd y perfformiad cyntaf o flaen 12 o bobl. Ers hynny, rydym wedi perfformio bedair gwaith, o flaen mwy na 300 o bobl, ac wedi cael adborth da. Rydym yn mynd i Lundain y mis nesaf a bydd hwnnw’n brofiad gwych, gan mai hwn yw’r tro cyntaf i mi fynd i Lundain. Mae’r theatr fforwm wedi dangos i mi fy mod yn gallu bod yn hyderus o flaen torf fawr. Mae wedi rhoi digon o hyder i mi wneud cais am waith fel troellwr disgiau hefyd.”

“For me Theatre Forum is one of the best things I have ever done. When I first wanted to do it I was so scared of being in front of a live audience, but after we did the performance in Barcelona I loved it so much the buzz I had after it was incredible. The thing that made me love it so much was when members of the audience came up and swapped places with the main character and that was excellent. Also, we only got a few days to practice but when it came together it was incredible. When I got the opportunity to do it again I didn’t hesitate in doing it. I love every minute of it and for me, the Theatre Forum has totally changed me as a person and for that I am grateful.”
