Minħabba d‑dewmien fil‑proċess ta' trażmissjoni, bidliet fil‑politika monetarja li jsiru llum jaffettwaw il‑livell tal‑prezzijiet wara xhur, jew anke snin. Dan ifisser li l‑banek ċentrali jkollhom jiddeċiedu liema orjentament tal‑politika monetarja hu meħtieġ illum biex tinżamm l‑istabbiltà tal‑prezzijiet fil‑futur.
Given the lags in the transmission process, monetary policy changes made today will only affect the price level after months, or even years. This means that monetary policy must be forward-looking. Central banks need to determine what policy stance is needed at present to maintain price stability in the future.

Jean Parisot de La Valette was born in 1494 and joined the Order of St. John of Jerusalem when he was 20. He joined the Order as a Knight of the "Langue" of Provence and was proclaimed Grand Master on 21 August 1557. On 18 May 1565, 138 galleys under the command of Piali' Pasha, and carrying a landing force of 40,000 men commanded by Mustapha Pasha, appeared off the coasts of Malta. This was the beginning of the Great Siege of 1565. Almost four months later, on 8 September, the defeated Turkish armada left these shores. The heroic Grand Master died on 21 August 1568. He was buried in the church of Our Lady of Victories where the foundation stone of Valletta, Malta's capital city, had been laid in 1566 by La Valette himself.

Kien ilu ppjanat għal żmien twil li tinbena belt ġdida ffortifikata fuq l‑għoljiet tal-peniżola Sceberras. Iżda kien biss wara l‑Assedju l‑Kbir tal‑1565 li l‑Ordni ta' San Ġwann, bl‑appoġġ tal‑Papa u r‑Re ta' Spanja, ikkommettiet ruħha sew għal dan il‑proġett.
The building of a new fortified city on the heights of the Sceberras peninsula had long been planned. But it was only in the aftermath of the Great Siege of 1565 that the Order of St John with the backing of the Pope and the King of Spain committed itself firmly to this project. The new city was designed by the Pope's architect Francesco Laparelli and its foundation stone was laid by Grand Master Jean de Valette on 28 March 1566. It was named Valletta in honour of the Grand Master. In 1571 the Order led by Grand Master Pietro del Monte transferred its quarters from Birgu to Valletta. It has served as Malta's capital city ever since. In 1980, Valletta with its impressive fortifications, outstanding buildings and monuments was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
