The Vulcan Hotel in Adam Street was one of Cardiff’s oldest public houses and following a Compulsory Purchase Order in 2008 it faced demolition. In May 2012 its owners Marcol Asset Management Ltd. donated the building to St Fagans: National History Museum and since then members of the Museum’s specialist Historic Buildings Unit have been busy measuring, documenting and dismantling the structure in preparation for its eventual relocation to the open-air attraction on the outskirts of the Welsh capital.

Roedd y staff yn fwy na pharod i roi o'u hamser i ddangos arteffactau newydd i mi ac esbonio cyfrifoldebau a thechnegau curadurol, rhywbeth yr oeddwn yn ei werthfawrogi'n fawr gan fy mod yn gobeithio gwneud gradd meistr mewn gofal casgliadau.
I really enjoyed gaining first hand experience of what daily life of a museum employee entails and learned a lot of new skills and useful techniques. I benefited from getting to know the staff and spending time with other volunteers, who often shared the same goals as me. The staff were more than happy to take time out of their busy day to show me new artefacts and explain curatorial responsibilities and techniques which I highly appreciated as I am hoping to undertake a masters degree in care of collections.

As well as activities in the museum itself, we've also been working on a new Village Trail around Dre-fach Felindre, to find out why it was once called the Huddersfield of Wales and visitors over the holidays can be among the first to try this out.”

This pond has been created as a result of the industry that preceded it. The rain water that ran off the tip formed this pond, and provided opportunities for new life to colonise. Today, this pond is teaming with life, providing homes and food for lots of animals and plants. Many birds and mammals will drink, bathe and feed on the insects living in this pond.

  Plac Efydd | Amgueddfa ...
Ni wyddom beth oedd pwrpas y plac. Mae'r tyllau rhybedion yn awgrymu ei fod wedi'i roi ar wyneb pren neu ledr. Awgrymwyd y gallai'r plac fod yn addurn ar flaen cerbyd neu'n rhan o wyneb tarian. Neu efallai ei fod yn addurn ar gerflun cwlt a roddwyd ar sarn a arweiniai i mewn i'r llyn.
The function of the plaque is unknown. The presence of rivet holes indicates that it was attached to a wooden or leather surface. One suggestion is that the plaque was a decorative element at the front of a chariot, another that it was part of a shield face. Alternatively it could have adorned a cult statue placed on a causeway into the lake.

"Until yesterday I've been helping to get Mark Lodwick's trench cleaned up, but now I've started work on my own. The bulk of the ploughsoil was removed with a mechanical digger and we quickly spotted several large stones in a line - another section of our enclosure wall? The area of the trench is very boggy and Roger - the farmer - tells us that he's made many attempts to drain the area. We've also found a lot of broken drainage pipe in the exposed area.

Byddai'n rhaid i filwr Rhufeinig roi blynyddoedd lawer o wasanaeth cyn dod yn uwch ganwriad. Byddai wedi bod yn o leiaf 50 oed pan gafodd y swydd, a fyddai wedi para blwyddyn yn unig. A Roman soldier would have served in the army for many years before becoming senior centurion and would have been at least 50 years old when he took this title, which he could only hold for one year. He would have been paid a vast amount of money and could have retired a rich man, or moved up the promotional ladder even further.
