Er nad yw'n cyfrif ond am nifer cymharol fach o ffermydd Cymru (8%), creodd y sector organig argraff ar banel beirniaid y Gwir Flas oedd yn cynnwys pen-cogyddion, awduron bwyd, arbenigwyr yn y diwydiant a newyddiadurwyr a roddodd sgôr i'r cynnyrch ar sail eu cynhwysion, eu hoglau, y golwg sydd arnynt, eu 'cnoadwyedd' a'u blas. Although only accounting for a relatively small amount of Welsh farms (8%), the Organic sector impressed the True Taste Judging panel of Chefs, Food Writers, Industry Experts and Journalists who scored the products on their ingredients, smell, appearance, 'chewability' and taste. Organic producers also came out top on performance in export markets over the last 12 months, providing another welcome boost to the sector..

Following presentations by three short listed tenders, Beaufort Research has been awarded the contract to carry out the Consumer Attitude Survey. The presentations prompted a debate over whether the survey should follow a quantitative or qualitative route, ie should the work study what's happening, or why it's happening? The selection panel concluded that there was sufficient data on why changes were happening to frame a quantitative survey that would establish the value of market segments.

Trefnodd y Soil Association gyfarfodydd i drafod hyn gan wahodd ffermwyr, cynhyrchwyr porthiant anifeiliaid, y cyhoedd ac eraill i roi eu barn am yr adroddiad a'r ffordd ymlaen wedi hynny. Ymhlith yr awgrymiadau yr oedd: hyrwyddo bridiau nad sydd angen dim neu nemor ddim porthiant a brynir; cynyddu'r porthiant o'r porfeldir ar gyfer moch a dofednod; annog cynhyrchiad cnydau protein a dyfir yn y DU; a helpu ffermwyr i rannu'r arferion gorau.
The Soil Association organised launch events and invited farmers, feed producers, the public and other stakeholders to give their views on the report and the way forward. Suggestions included: promoting breeds that need little or no purchased feed; increasing feed from the range for pigs and poultry; encouraging production of UK grown protein crops; increasing the proportion of forage in diet required by the organic standards; and helping farmers share best practice.

  Strategaeth bwyd a diod...
"Mae'r strategaeth yn adlewyrchu newid sylweddol uchelgeisiol drwy roi mwy o gydnabyddiaeth i'r system fwyd ehangach. Mae'n gosod cyfeiriad radical ar gyfer diwydiant a'r Llywodraeth, ac yn wynebu'r her o sicrhau bod pobl yn gallu cael y bwyd fforddiadwy ac iach sydd ei angen arnynt, gan sicrhau ar yr un pryd nad yw hynny'n cael effaith niweidiol ar yr amgylchedd naturiol."
“The strategy represents an ambitious step change by incorporating a greater acknowledgement of the wider food system. It sets a radical direction for industry and Government, and faces up to the challenge of ensuring that people have access to the affordable and healthy food they need whilst ensuring that it does not impact adversely on the natural environment."

The campaign will communicate the benefits and values of organic food to heavyweight purchasers and give them reassurance through more reasons other than well-being for choosing organic produce.'Dabblers' will be provided with reasons to purchase organic produce by keeping the messages front of mind, and stakeholders – farmers, producers, distributors, accreditation organisations, etc – will be kept on board by establishing a consistent platform.
  Cynhadledd Cynhyrchwyr ...
Credai fod nifer o ffactorau wedi cyfrannu at y gostyngiad yn y galw am gynnyrch organig. Yn hytrach na rhoi pwys ar y gair “O”, yr oedd o'r farn y dylid pwysleisio'r gair “S” - gan roi amlygrwydd i fwyd “cynaliadwy” a gynhyrchwyd drwy ffermio “cynaliadwy”.
Patrick Holden, who recently stepped down as Director of the Soil Association, spoke of the need for a major reappraisal of how organic farmers promote themselves and their produce. He believed several factors had contributed to a faltering demand for organic produce and rather than using the “O” word the emphasis should instead be on the “S” word - highlighting “sustainable” food produced from “sustainable” farming.

“Mae egwyddorion ffermio organig yn rhan bwysig o'n model o gynhyrchu bwyd cynaliadwy, ethegol, gan eu bod nhw'n effeithio nid yn unig ar y bwyd yr ydym yn ei gynhyrchu, ond ar yr amgylchedd ehangach. Mae'n bwysig i'n haelodau fel sicrwydd ac i'r bwytai yr ydym yn eu cyflenwi, wybod y gallan nhw roi addewid cadarn i'w cwsmeriaid bod eu bwyd yn tarddu'n lleol ac yn gynaliadwy.
“The organic principles of farming are a very important part of our ethical, sustainable food production model, as they not only impact on the food we produce but on the wider environment. This is important to our members as a reassurance and to the restaurants we supply, knowing they can give their customers a firm promise that their food comes from a local and sustainable source.”

Public sector spending cuts could mean the end of healthy school meals in the UK. Writing in the Western Mail, Prof. Kevin Morgan of Cardiff University says that school food is the test of a society's commitment to social justice, public health and sustainable development. In recent years, there has been a push towards higher nutritional standards and sustainable procurement, led by government schemes such as Appetite for Life in Wales, and projects like the English Food for Life partnership. These gains are now under threat from spending cuts, which could leave the school meal service reduced to its statutory minimum – a provider of free school meals for families on low incomes.

In spite of all the doom and gloom around in the marketplace, here we are starting to see the beginnings of a recovery which I hope is being mirrored across the sector. Everyone still has to eat so let's give them good tasting, fairly priced wonderful organic food - they'll be back for more!

Mae data wedi cael eu tynnu o 647 o arolygon gorffenedig (sef 64% o'r holl gynhyrchwyr organig ardystiedig) ac wedi'u dadansoddi i roi canlyniadau i Gymru gyfan gan ddefnyddio fformiwlâu sy'n gyson ag astudiaethau blaenorol.
The Welsh Organic Producer Survey has been commissioned by Organic Centre Wales on an annual basis since 2007. The 2012 survey was undertaken via a series of telephone interviews conducted during October and November 2012. Data has been drawn from 647 completed surveys (representing 64% of all certified organic producers) and extrapolated to give pan-Wales results using formulas consistent with previous studies. A copy of the full report can be found online at: http://www.organiccentrewales.org.uk/uploads/ocw_producer_survey_report_2012_final_executive_summary.pdf

Bydd y digwyddiadau'n cynnwys cyngor ymarferol ar sut i fynd ati gam wrth gam i ddefnyddio cynhwysion ffres, tymhorol, lleol ac organig, ac yn gweld arloeswyr y Nod Arlwyo yng Nghymru'n trafod sut gall y Nod hwn roi sicrwydd i ddefnyddwyr am y bwyd y maent yn ei fwyta.
The events will include practical advice on how to take a step-by-step approach to using fresh, seasonal, local and organic ingredients, and will see Catering Mark pioneers in Wales discuss how the Catering Mark can reassure consumers about the food they are eating. The days will end with a networking session over a Gold Catering Mark lunch.

Mae prynwyr organig hefyd wedi bod yn fodlon gwylio gwerthoedd grawn yn llithro ond teimlwn fod ganddynt lawer i'w brynu y tu hwnt i fis Awst, a ddylai roi rhywfaint o gefnogaeth os dôn nhw i gyd i'r farchnad i brynu ar yr un pryd!
Markets have been quieter of late as farms concentrate on spring drilling, and buying demand is reduced as summer feed rations are reduced. There are some good opportunities for late in the season. Prices have eased off recent highs following the Ukrainian situation ( a huge exporter of Organic and non Organic raw material feedstuffs ) but new offers from that region are hard to come by. UK availability of unsold grain is low after the small harvest of last year, and we hope that a larger 2014 harvest will improve the supply situation. Consumers generally would prefer to source domestic produce where they can, but supply has been a major issue in the recent past. New crop markets have yet to become established, but look to be around £225 for September wheat.
