Public transport opens up the Coast Path in surprising ways. Not only is it a trouble-free way to travel to Wales if you are on your holidays, but it is also a great way to get onto the path - and you can leave the car at home! With 870 miles to explore, you can use public transport to hop along the coast allowing you to just walk favourite sections (while also giving your feet a bit of a rest).

  Codau QR History Points
Ac mae mwy yn ymddangos drwy’r adeg, diolch i gymorth gwirfoddolwyr, busnesau lleol, cynghorau ac eraill. Gallwch fynd ar hyd taith y codau QR, o sir i sir, ar eich cyfrifiadur – efallai y bydd hyn yn eich helpu i ddewis pa ran o’r llwybr i’w droedio.
The QRs are produced by the community-based information project HistoryPoints.org. They’re already at almost 150 locations along the WCP – from Flint to Chepstow and around Anglesey. More are appearing all the time, thanks to the support of volunteers, local businesses, councils and others. You can also explore the entire QR tour, county by county, on your home computer – perhaps to help choose a section of the path to explore.

  Pierau a Phromenadau
’Dyw mynd am dro hir ar draws caeau agored ac ar hyd brigau clogwyni ddim yn apelio llawer at y mwyafrif. Dychmygwch, fodd bynnag, pe gallech chi gerdded taith sy’n fwy o dro hamddenol? Un y gellid ei mwynhau ar agos unrhyw dywydd?
When our hibernation instinct kicks in it’s easy to succumb to the warm and cosy. Major hikes across open fields and along exposed cliff tops in the darker months do not have immense appeal to most. But, imagine if you could find a walk which is more of a casual stroll? One that is enjoyable in almost every weather? Where all the family can head out for an adventure? The Wales Coast Path may just have the perfect solution for you along its piers and promenades.

The stunning backdrop of Newton Beach, near Porthcawl is set to be the venue for the first speed dating walk in South Wales on Sunday, October 7, from 3.30pm. The event is part of Bridgend Council’s Love2Walk Festival; a nine-day celebration of all things pedestrian and follows in the footsteps of a successful speed dating walk on the Isle of Wight. Tourism officers there noticed a lot of single people turning out for organised walks and set up a trial speed dating stroll. People came from as far and wide as London, Birmingham and Kent. In the six years since it was established, the event has been responsible for four marriages and a baby.

Felly pan glywais fod y llwybr 870 milltir wedi ei agor yn llawn o gwmpas Cymru, roedd yn ddewis amlwg i mi i geisio ysbrydoli pobl i roi arian i’r achos gwych yma a hybu harddwch naturiol Cymru ar yr un pryd wrth i mi ddiweddaru fy mlog at bob taith: Pamela Mallpress Blog.
I love walking and have in the past walked small parts of the Wales Coast Path in Pembrokeshire and on the Lleyn peninsula. So when I heard that the path was open for the full 870 miles around Wales, it seemed the obvious choice for me to try to inspire people to donate to this great cause and at the same time to promote the beauty of Wales as I update my blog for each walk.  You can read my blog Pamela Mallpress Blog.
  Taith Charlie
Ymlaen â ni i Fae Oxwich, ac yna’r twyni ac ar hyd yr arfordir hardd i’r Mwmbwls. Taith rwydd o amgylch Bae Abertawe, ac yna i Bort Talbot a’r strydoedd cefn. Gwyriad mawr i’r Pîl, ac yna’n ôl i’r arfordir ar hyd y twyni ac i Aberogwr, gan ddilyn yr arfordir hardd i Lanilltud Fawr, cyn cael ein gwobrwyo gydag ymweliad gan yr Arglwydd Faer ym Mhenarth.
Initially the Path took in woods full of bluebells and wild garlic before heading to Whitford Point. Extremely strong winds on the beach. Plenty of ups and downs on the way around the Gower. On to Oxwich Bay then the dunes and good coastline around to The Mumbles. Easy walking around Swansea Bay then on to Port Talbot and the back streets. A big detour to Pyle then back to coast along the dunes and to Ogmore-by-the-sea, with a scenic coastline to Llantwit Major, before being reward by a visit from the Lord Mayor in Penarth. From here, it was over the bridge to Cardiff where the signs are on the ground, before Newport.

The Taith Ardudwy Way is a new mid level route from Barmouth to Llandecwyn. This is a 3 day walk split into 3 sections as day walks. It is 24 miles in total but you can just cherry pick your favorities and link up with public transport to do the rest. More details on the Taith Ardudwy Way can be found on the Snowdonia National Park Authority website

Dychwelais adref gyda dos 5,000 o luniau a dechrau meddwl sut cefais amser i gerdded o gwbl, gyda chynifer o luniau ar fy nghamera! Mae Cymru’n brydferth, beth bynnag fo’r tywydd (gan nad 2012 oedd y flwyddyn orau i gael haul yr haf), ond gwnaethom y gorau ohoni a byddwn yn argymell y profiad i unrhyw sy’n cynllunio taith debyg!
The friendships forged and the kindness and generosity of the people and traditional Welsh communities we met along the way simply bowled me over. I came home with over 5,000 photographs and began to wonder how I had managed to find time to walk at all, with so many images on my camera! Wales is beautiful, regardless of the weather (as 2012 was not the best year for summer sun), but we made the most of it and I would recommend the experience to anyone planning a similar trip!
  Stephen Hedges
Isafbwyntiau: Dim un, i ddweud y gwir, er roedd yr holl gerdded ar ffyrdd a tharmac yn dipyn o straen! Ond wnes i ddim colli golwg ar fy nod ac roedd fy llyfr taith a’m mapiau OS yn hoelio fy meddwl ar y targed dyddiol
Low Points: None really, although the amount of road and tarmac walking did take its toll! I never lost sight of the goal and my guidebook and OS maps kept me focussed on each day’s target.

Roedd yna hefyd ddyddiau pan oedd yn bosibl cael cip ar y dyfodol, yn wir ar y diwrnod cyntaf o'r Barri i Gaerdydd wrth gyfarfod Hannah a'i mul, Chico, ar eu taith o gwmpas Cymru, taith a gychwynnodd yn Aberystwyth dri mis yn gynharach a gyda mis neu ddau arall i fynd.
Looking back on what was an unforgettable experience, it’s difficult to isolate particular high points. Every day had its moments - moments of beauty, charm, humour or even personal challenge. Even those when the rain sheeted down with relentless intensity or when the wind gusted and punched me sideways, pushing me ever closer to sheer cliff edges. There were days too which offered a glimpse into the future, not least the very first day from Barry to Cardiff when I met Hannah and her donkey Chico on their journey around Wales, a journey that had started in Aberystwyth three months previously and one that had another two to go. I was excited that first day, puppy-like in my expectations of what lay ahead; Hannah, I sensed had become a toughened traveller, grown weary but still driven by a sense of purpose and duty. That first morning it crossed my mind that the journey may have a few surprises in store that I hadn’t bargained for – hardly an earth shattering prediction but one that was proved correct on many occasions.
  Cilgerran ac Aberteifi
Dyma le gwych i gael seibiant ar eich taith, sydd hefyd yn croesawu cŵn (er bod disgwyl i chi gadw’ch ci ar dennyn). Saif Castell Cilgerran ar glogwyn uchel uwchben y ceunant, mewn lle perffaith i wrthsefyll ymosodiadau gan ysbeilwyr.
This is a great stopping off point along your walk and is also dog friendly (though it is requested that dogs are kept on leads). Standing on a high crag above the gorge Cilgerran Castle is perched in the perfect spot to repel attacks from marauders. Walk the walls, explore the 13th century medieval structure and admire the views along the Teifi Estuary before heading back to Cardigan. Open from the end of March to end of October, the whole family can visit for under £12.

Byddai’n daith gerdded o gwmpas Cymru o tua mil o filltiroedd, taith a fyddai’n dangos Cymru i mi o safbwynt hollol newydd, yn edrych ar y tu mewn o'r tu allan, taith na fyddai gan y rhan fwyaf na’r amser na’r awydd i roi cynnig arni, taith y gwyddwn i, po fwyaf roeddwn i'n ceisio ei hanwybyddu, y byddai’n rhaid i mi roi cynnig arni.
5 May 2012, the date of the official opening of the Wales Coast Path was also the day that a tiny seed was planted somewhere in the back of my mind, a seed that over the subsequent 15 months slowly germinated and gradually changed from being just a frivolous idea to becoming a naive but definite commitment to walk not only the path but Offa’s Dyke as well. It would be a walk around Wales of 1000 miles or so; a walk that would allow me to see Wales from a completely new perspective, from the outside looking in; a walk that relatively few would find the time or the inclination to try; a walk that the more I tried to ignore became something I knew I had to try. Retirement from the Welsh Government at the end of August 2013 meant that the time for excuses and further procrastination was over. It was time to ‘just do it’. If nothing else it would give me a couple of months to gorge myself on the beauty, uniqueness and idiosyncrasies of Wales before moving on to other, yet to be determined, avenues and interests.

O’r orsaf, ar ôl taith fer i lawr ‘City Road’, mae’r llwybr, drwy’r ddinas yn bennaf, yn un ddeniadol a diddorol ar hyd llwybr halio Camlas y ‘Shropshire Union’, lle mae’n gadael drwy dwll yn y wal ger basn y gamlas, cyn rhedeg i lawr ‘Catherine Street’ i faes chwarae'r ’Cop’.
From the station, after a brief walk down City Road, the route through the city is primarily an attractive and interesting one along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal, which it leaves through a hole in the wall by the canal basin, before running down Catherine Street to ‘The Cop’ recreation ground.

Llwybr lefel canolig yw Taith Ardudwy o’r Abermo i Landecwyn. Mae’r daith dros dridiau ac wedi’i rhannu’n dair taith ddydd. 24 milltir yw hyd y daith i gyd, ond gallwch ddewis eich hoff ddarnau a defnyddio trafnidiaeth gyhoeddus i wneud y gweddill.

Taith gerdded wych ar hyd aber Afon Dyfrdwy. Mae’r daith yn cychwyn ger Castell y Fflint, sef y castell cyntaf a adeiladwyd yng Nghymru ar ôl i’r Brenin Edward I oresgyn y wlad yn y drydedd ganrif ar ddeg, ac yn gorffen ger Abaty Dinas Basing, abaty o’r deuddegfed ganrif (tua hanner milltir i mewn i’r tir o Lwybr yr Arfordir ym Maes-glas).
A magnificent walk along the Dee Estuary between the 13th century Flint Castle, the first to be built when King Edward I invaded Wales, and the 12th century Basingwerk Abbey (which lies approximately half a mile inland from the Coast Path at Greenfield). (Bus)

Mae’n amhosibl dewis fy hoff le, ond pe byddai’n rhaid i mi enwi ychydig o’r lleoedd gorau fe fyddwn yn dewis St Justinian ger Tyddewi gyda’i fachlud haul gogoneddus a’i le gwersylla gwych; y cyfan o Ynys Môn am gael wythnos o arfordir gwyllt heb fod yr un dau ddiwrnod yr un fath, y bryniau ger Llwyngwril gyda’u panorama godidog o Eryri a Llŷn a Phort Eynon gyda’i Hostel Ieuenctid ffantastig ar y traeth, yn swatio ar drwyn bro Gŵyr. Ac ambell i ryfeddod prin hefyd, megis Bae Bullwell ger purfa olew Rhoscrowdder - taith gerdded fer trwy hen goetir, a dim ond dafliad carreg o derfynfa’r llongau tancer.
It's impossible to pick a favourite place, but if I had to name a few top spots then I'd choose St Justinian near St David's for a stunning sunset and great camping; the whole of Anglesey for a week of wild coast with no two days the same; the hillsides near Llwyngwril for an awesome panorama of Snowdonia and the Llyn; and Port Eynon for a fantastic Youth Hostel on the beach, tucked away at the tip of the Gower. And for a pleasant surprise, try Bullwell Bay near Rhoscrowther oil refinery - a short walk through old woodland, a stone's throw from the tanker terminal. It's prettier than it sounds!

The Trident Trek was an absolutely amazing experience and I was grateful to the National Trust for giving me a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to complete the path in one go.  There’s so many places that I need to find the time to re-visit and spend more time exploring.  More information on the walk and the National Trust coastline campaign can be found at the NT Welsh coast blog.
