The generating station is the last sizable remains of a phase of mining history in Ceredigion that involved the use of locally produced electricity to operate all the plant and machinery needed at a mineral mine, namely Frongoch. Tregaron is located south of one of Europe's largest growing peat bogs - Cors Goch Glan Teifi (Cors Caron) - an important National Nature Reserve. Cors Caron is fed by the river Teifi, famous with anglers, which flows down from its source in the high hills above Pontrhydfendigaid. The elusive Brown Trout, Salmon and Sewin are to be found in the Teifi river. There are a number of Coarse fisheries in the county offering facilities for anglers of all abilities.

The wheel is positioned in the exact spot where a 26foot wheel drove stamps which pulverised the ore, back in the 1850's. The water which pours from the site now turns the wheel. An interpretation panel located near the water wheel will provide additional information explaining the importance of the site and that the wheel should be considered as a memorial to those miners who worked down the mines.
