Mona Antiqua (in partnership with Menter Mon) – Once home to the largest copper mine in the world, this project has explored and renewed the history of this remarkable area in Anglesey. Interpretation work has been carried out at Coppor Bins Amlwch Heritage Centre, Parys Mountain and various sites in Holyhead. Hubs have been set up at Holyhead, Amlwch, Beaumaris, Oriel Ynys Mon and in the South West (Aberffraw / Newburough Forest and Llys Llewelyn). Conservation and interpretation work has also taken place at Llanddwyn Island, the Welsh equivelant of the patron saint of St Valentines – St Dwynwen. From exploring the history of copper in Wales, to discovering more about the patron saint of lovers, this project has helped to transform Angelsey into a heritage destination for all the family.
