Der Vorsteher des EDA wies auf die Bemühungen der internationalen Gemeinschaft im Bereich der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit hin, die nun Früchte tragen und konkrete Ergebnisse hervorbringen. Als Beispiele für die erzielten Fortschritte nannte er den Rückgang der Sterblichkeitsrate bei schwangeren Frauen und Kindern in allen Weltregionen in den letzten Jahren, höhere Einschulungsraten, namentlich in Afrika und Asien, den Rückgang bei den HIV-Infektionen und einen besseren Zugang zu Trinkwasser.

Addressing the Conference, which was held at the BERNEXPO, Didier Burkhalter noted that the efforts of the international community in the area of development cooperation are bearing fruit and producing concrete results. He went on to cite tangible examples of the progress that has been achieved, including the reduction in the mortality rate among pregnant women and children in all regions of the world during the past few years, the improvement in the rate of children attending school especially in Africa and Asia, the reduction in the number of HIV infections, and improved access to drinking water, in line with the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations.

S’exprimant dans l’enceinte de BERNEXPO, M.Burkhalter a relevé que les efforts de la communauté internationale en matière de coopération au développement portent leurs fruits et débouchent sur des résultats concrets. Et le conseiller fédéral de mentionner, comme exemples tangibles des progrès réalisés, la baisse du taux de mortalité chez les femmes enceintes et chez les enfants dans toutes les régions du monde au cours des dernières années; la meilleure scolarisation des enfants, en particulier en Afrique et en Asie ; la diminution du nombre d’infections par le virus VIH ainsi que l’accès à l’eau potable pour les populations, dans la ligne des Objectifs du Millénaire fixés par les Nations Unies.
